Top five storylines from Week 13 of the 2021 NFL regular season
December 8, 2021
The National Football League has one month left in its 2021 regular season. Let’s take a look at the top five storylines from Week 13.
5) Cooper Kupp shining for the Rams.
It has simply been a sensational season for Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp of Yakima, Washington. On Sunday, Kupp had eight catches for 129 yards and one touchdown in a 37-7 Rams win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Kupp leads the NFL this season with 100 catches, 1366 receiving yards and 11 touchdown catches. Kupp also became the fifth wide receiver in NFL history to get 100 catches after a team’s first 12 games. He joins Michael Thomas of the New Orleans Saints, Julio Jones of the Atlanta Falcons, Marvin Harrison of the Indianapolis Colts and Wes Welker of the New England Patriots according to ESPN. With the win, the Rams snapped a three game losing streak, and improved to a record of eight wins and four losses.
4) Detroit Lions finally win.
Over the last 20 years, the Detroit Lions have without a doubt been one of the worst teams not only in the NFL, but professional sports worldwide. On Sunday, they came through with a narrow 29-27 win over the Minnesota Vikings for their first victory of 2021 after a start to the season of 0-11-1. The Lions star was rookie Amon-Ra St. Brown, who had the game-winning touchdown catch from quarterback Jared Goff on the final play of the game. The second quarter was perfect for Detroit, as they outscored Minnesota 20-0.

3) Chargers get an all-Canadian touchdown.
In one of the most intriguing games of the weekend, the Los Angeles Chargers improved to 7-5 on the season with a 41-22 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. Early in the fourth quarter the Chargers got a unique all-Canadian touchdown on defense. That is when Bengals running back Joe Mixon fumbled the pigskin, which was forced by Chargers defensive end Christian Covington of Vancouver, British Columbia. The ball was then scooped up by cornerback Tevaughn Campbell of Toronto, Ontario, who had a 61-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown.
2) Ravens lose on gutsy play call.
The Baltimore Ravens went for the win on Sunday, when they could have forced overtime with a convert. Instead of using one of the best kickers in NFL history in Justin Tucker, they decided to have quarterback Lamar Jackson beat the Pittsburgh Steelers with a two-point convert attempt when trailing 20-19. The pass attempt from Jackson to tight end Mark Andrews was incomplete and gave the Steelers a much needed win. The Ravens drop to 8-4, while the Steelers improve to 6-5-1.
1) Patriots win with only three pass attempts.
No the headline above is not on a misprint. The New England Patriots literally beat the Buffalo Bills 14-10 with two pass completions in three attempts for 19 yards on Monday night. The two pass completions were the fewest in a single game in NFL history, and the three pass attempts were the fewest since the Bills had two pass attempts against the New York Jets in 1974. Damien Harris had 10 rushes for 111 yards for New England before leaving the game with what appeared to be a hamstring injury. Jones meanwhile had a first half 12-yard pass to Jonnu Smith, and a second half seven-yard pass to Brandon Bolden. That folks was it! With the win, the Patriots improve to 9-4, and miraculously lead the AFC.
