Top five headlines from Week 8 of 2024 NFL season

The eighth week of the 2024 National Football League regular season is now finished. Here are the top five headlines.

5) Another game-winning field goal for Brandon McManus.

Brandon McManus of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania has been a hit with Packers supporters so far. In two games with Green Bay, McManus has made two game-winning field goals. Last week he made a 45-yard field goal with no time left in a 24-22 Packers win over the Houston Texans. This week, he made a 24-yard field goal with no time left in a 30-27 Packers win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. With the wins, the Packers improve to a record of six wins and two losses, and are in second place in the NFC North.

4) Kansas City Chiefs remain undefeated.

The Chiefs remain the only team in the NFL without a loss as they are at seven wins and zero losses. On Sunday, they defeated the Las Vegas Raiders 27-20. Patrick Mahomes had 262 yards passing in the AFC West divisonal battle. Next up for the Chiefs is Tampa Bay in week eight.

3) Detroit Lions show great running game.

The Lions did not need to pass the ball much on Sunday. Jared Goff only had 85 yards passing. Detroit clobbered Tennessee 52-14 because of a great running attack. Jahmyr Gibbs of Dalton, Georgia had 11 rushes for 127 rushing yards and one touchdown, as Detroit improved to 6-1 and lead the NFC North.

2) Cleveland Browns deliver upset win.

Despite being a 7.5 point underdog, the Cleveland Browns found a way to beat the AFC North leading Baltimore Ravens 29-24. The Cleveland star was Jameis Winston, who got his first career start with the Browns with Deshaun Watson injured, and was excellent. Winston completed 27 of 41 passes, 334 passing yards and two touchdowns.

1) Commanders deliver with dramatic win.

The most exciting finish came in Washington, as Jayden Daniels completed a 52-yard Hail Mary touchdown to Noah Brown on the final play of the game. At the time, the Commanders were trailing the Chicago Bears 15-12, and then won 18-15. With the win, Washington improves to 6-2 and lead the NFC East.
