The second week of the NFL season provided plenty of interest. Here were five storylines.

5) Carolina Panthers are a surprise 2-0.

Many people expected the Carolina Panthers to beat the New York Jets in week 1, but not many expected Carolina to outperform New Orleans, after the Saints hammered the Green Bay Packers 38-3 on the opening weekend. However, in week 2, the Panthers’ defense came up huge, and limited the Saints to only one rushing touchdown in a 26-7 romp.

4) Going to take Zach Wilson time to develop.

Jets fans might have expected it would take their rookie quarterback Zack Wilson time to emerge. However, on Sunday Wilson had a dreadful stat line, as he had four interceptions compared to zero touchdowns in a 25-6 New England win. Things did not go much better for Jaguars rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence, as he only had 118 yards passing in a 23-13 Jacksonville loss to Denver.

3) Kyler Murray off to a fantastic start.

Fantasy owners of Kyler Murray, like my cousin’s son, must be extremely excited. Over the first two weeks, the Cardinals quarterback has completed 50 of 68 passes for 689 yards, and seven touchdowns, along with 52 rushing yards, and two more majors. On Sunday, Murray reached 400 yards in passing as Arizona beat Minnesota 34-33 thanks to a missed field goal by Vikings kicker Greg Joseph on the final play of the game.

2) Derrick Henry rebounds in a big way.

It was not a very good start to the season for Titans’ star running back Derrick Henry.  In his 2021 regular season debut, he was limited to 58 yards in a 38-13 Tennessee loss to Arizona. However, on Sunday, Henry was magnificent. He had 35 carries for 182 yards, and three touchdowns, along with six catches for 55 yards, as the Titans beat the Seattle Seahawks 33-30 in overtime.

1)Buccaneers are not all offense.

When the Tampa Bay Buccaneers enter the conversation, you think of Tom Brady, and maybe sometimes their star tight end Rob Gronkowski. Well folks, it is time to give their defense some love. On Sunday, Buccaneers safety Mike Edwards had a quarter for the ages. In a span of four minutes, he had not one, but two pick-sixes, in a 48-25 Tampa win over the Atlanta Falcons.
