Top five headlines from Week 16 of 2024 NFL season

The 16th week of the 2024 National Football League regular season is now finished. Here are the top five headlines.

5) Jonathan Taylor shines.

For only the second time in his career, Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor of Salem, New Jersey eclipsed 200 rushing yards. He had 29 rushes for 218 rushing yards and three touchdowns in a 38-30 win over the Tennessee Titans. With the win, the Colts improved to 7-8. The only other time Taylor accomplished the feat was on January 3, 2021, when he set a Colts single game franchise record for rushing yards with 253 in a 28-14 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

4) Baltimore Ravens clinch a playoff spot.

The Ravens are in the postseason. On Saturday, they defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 34-17. The Baltimore stars were running back Derrick Henry of Yulee, Florida, who had 24 rushes for 163 rushing yards and wide receiver Zay Flowers of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, who had five catches for 100 yards.

3) Great comeback for the Commanders.

Philadelphia saw their 10 game winning streak come to an end on Sunday as they lost quarterback Jalen Hurts to a concussion. Philadelphia could not keep a 21-7 first quarter lead and lost 36-33 to the Washington Commanders. The game-winning touchdown was by Daniels to Jamison Crowder of Monroe, North Carolina for nine yards with six seconds left.

2) Historic kick by Dicker the Kicker.

For the first time in 48 years a fair catch free kick field goal was made in the National Football League on Thursday. That is what Chargers kicker Cameron Dicker of Hong Kong accomplished at the end of the first half when Tremon Smith was given a 15-yard fair catch interference penalty. Dicker made the field goal from 57 yards en route to a 34-27 Chargers win over the Denver Broncos.

1) Brandon Aubrey makes NFL history.

The Dallas Cowboys kicker from St. Louis, Missouri made NFL history Sunday night with the most field goals in a season of 50+ yards. Aubrey now has 14 field goals this season of 50 yards or more after making two field goals from 58 yards and one from 53 yards in a 26-24 Cowboys win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
