Top five headlines from Week 11 of 2024 NFL season

The 11th week of the 2024 National Football League regular season is now finished. Here are the top five headlines.

5) Taysom Hill sets NFL record for most rushing yards in a game by a tight end.

I am not sure what you can call Taysom Hill of Pocatello, Idaho. Is he a running back, tight end, quarterback, or multi-positional phenom? On Sunday, Hill set the NFL record for most rushing yards in a game by a tight end with 138 in a 35-14 New Orleans Saints win over the Cleveland Browns. He broke the previous record of 122 which was accomplished by himself in a 39-32 Saints win over the Seattle Seahawks on October 9, 2022. Also in the Saints’s win, Hill caught eight passes for 50 yards and had one pass for 18 yards. It is clear new Saints head coach Darren Rizzi of Hillsdale, New Jersey has got Hill more involved in the offense, and so far it has worked. The Saints are 2-0 since making a coaching change.

4) Cowboys are awful.

We knew things would get bad for the Cowboys not having Dak in the lineup. No one expected it would be this bad. With quarterback Dak Prescott out for the year with a torn hamstring, the Cowboys are awful. On Monday, they became the first team ever to be behind by 20+ points in six straight home games in a 34-6 loss to the Houston Texans.

3) Lions set franchise record with most total yards in a game.

Detroit had 645 total yards on Sunday, setting a franchise record. They had 449 passing yards (412 from starting quarterback Jared Goff of Novato, California), and 196 rushing yards (team-high 75 yards rushing from David Montgomery of Cincinnati, Ohio) in a 52-6 Lions romp over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

2) Packers win with blocked field goal.

For the second straight week, a team won a game with a blocked field goal. Last week it was the Kansas City Chiefs. This week it was the Green Bay Packers. The Packers hero on Sunday was Karl Brooks of Lansing, Michigan, who blocked a 46 yard field goal attempt by Bears kicker Cairo Santos in a 20-19 Packers win. How rare is a game-winning blocked field goal? According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Green Bay has not done it since November 26, 1939 when they beat the Cleveland Rams 7-6.

1) Chiefs lose for the first time since Christmas Day.

For the first time since Christmas Day, the Kansas City Chiefs have lost. On Sunday, the Buffalo Bills snapped the Chiefs’s remarkable 15 game winning streak from last season in a 30-21 Buffalo win. Bills quarterback Josh Allen had 252 yards passing, but also led the team with 55 rushing yards.
