Tom Green has a two-year contract offer from the GWS Giants in front of him, AFL.com.au has reported, as Tasmania continues its push to make the star midfielder the Devils’ marquee signing.
AFL.com.au’s Callum Twomey reported on Wednesday that the Giants have tabled the shorter deal as well as the seven-year offer they put to Green in the middle of the year, which would keep him at the club until the end of 2034 and is worth close to $10 million.
Green is expected to favour the shorter-term contract, according to the report, with staying at the Giants seen as the likely option at this stage.
Tasmania’s top target
The Canberra product is one of Tasmania’s top priority targets, with the Devils keen to make him their marquee signing at the end of 2027. Tasmania can access out-of-contract players under its rules over the next two years, and Green is also qualifying for restricted free agency.
AFL.com.au said there is “a view in the industry” that the Devils have put forward a deal that would eclipse the $18 million record deal Zak Butters landed at the Western Bulldogs, in a bid to lure Green south as their first star and captain.

Why the two-year deal matters
A two-year contract would take Green through to unrestricted free agency at the end of 2029, when he would be able to walk to a rival club without the Giants being able to match an offer.
Green missed the 2026 season after a knee reconstruction on the eve of the campaign in February, and he has been focused on his recovery while working through his contract call.
He is expected to captain the Giants next year, either on his own or as co-captain, after Toby Greene left for Geelong as a free agent earlier this month.

GWS football boss Jason McCartney said on AFL Trade Radio earlier this month that the club was hopeful of locking in at least one of its key free agents, Green and Lachie Ash, before Christmas.
Tasmania has been building its playing group in the meantime, with delisted Geelong midfielder George Stevens signing with the Devils for 2027 this week and reportedly committing to their inaugural AFL list in 2028.
