The Tennessee Titans have named quarterback Cam Ward of West Columbia, Texas first overall in the 2025 National Football League Draft. Ward played this past season with the University of Miami Hurricanes.
In 13 games in 2024, Ward completed 305 passes in 454 attempts for 4313 passing yards, 39 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. He also had 60 rushes for 204 rushing yards and four touchdown rushes.
Ward only spent one year at Miami. He initially played two seasons with the University of Incarnate Word in San Antonio in 2020 and 2021, before two seasons with the Washington State University Cougars in 2022 and 2023.
It should be noted that Ward initially declared for the 2024 NFL Draft, but changed his mind and joined the Hurricanes instead. The decision was a smart one, as Ward ended up being the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year.
It should be zero surprise whatsoever that the Titans selected a quarterback first overall. The franchise was in desperate need of a quarterback with high potent skill. But did the Titans make the right move in drafting Ward over the multi-positional phenom Travis Hunter of West Palm Beach, Florida? Hunter has the potential of being football’s version of Shohei Ohtani–a once in a generation star who can play key positions on offense and defense. He is an elite wide receiver and cornerback.
The Jacksonville Jaguars were very high on Hunter. They initially had the fifth overall pick, and made a trade with the Cleveland Browns, to select Hunter second overall. The Browns move to trade down, will not be looked favourably by a disgruntled Cleveland fanbase that are already not very supportive of DeShaun Watson being their quarterback.
