A horse that caught the eye first-up holds all the chips in this week’s edition of The Plunge’s Blackbookers. We’ll also look at the chances of a horse that produced a scintillating trial recently but may be looking for a dry track.
Randwick Race 5 – Fulmina
Fulmina produced an eye catching run first-up at Rosehill 3 weeks ago. The Newnham trained mare jumped well from barrier 12 but Tom Sherry was forced to jag her to the tail of the field to avoid being 3 and 4 wide. From the turn she rattled home with impressive closing sectionals to finish 0.8L back in third.
She draws barrier 4 on Saturday and I expect her to settle somewhere around midfield. She has a great wet track record with 1:1-0-0 on the soft and 4:2-1-0 on the heavy. She looks a great bet.
Tip: Fulmina 3 Units Win @ $2.7
Note: The Clare Cunningham trained Cradle Mountain earned a spot in The Plunge’s Blackbook after producing an outstanding trial win at Randwick on December 8th.
He has a great first-up record (6:3-1-0) but it’s his record in the wet (7:1-2-0) and the fact he is coming up against the likes of Edison and Hilo that we are going to leave him in the book for something more suitable.
