The Plunge’s Black Book: Horses Running At Randwick 17/4

A successful Day 1 of The Championships with Anamoe dominating the G1 Sires Produce and depending on whether you got on early or jumped off when the track was upgraded to a Soft 6, a huge sight from Icebath who just missed on the post in the Doncaster at the handsome odds of $7 for the place.

We focus our attention to Day 2 here! A multiple G1 winner looking to return to form and a Oaks filly at big odds that is certain to run out a strong 2400m are two of my four selections for a massive day of racing.

Randwick Race 4 – Trifaccia

Trifaccia steps back out in the G2 Percy Sykes Stakes and I loved what I saw at the trials a week ago.

From a wide gate she was a little tardy and forced to settle last 4 wide where she wanted to get her head in the air before Rachel King was able to get the to settle before the turn. Despite being the widest runner the whole trip, she cruised down the outside to just miss taking out the trial by a nose. The form around that Randwick trial is up in the air and she clearly has a bit to learn but it was hard to not be impressed the way she worked through the line.

She finished 3rd in the Reisling 5 weeks ago and if there is enough speed up front, she should be coming home strong over the top of them.

Randwick Race 5 – Bargain

Followers will recall how impressed I was with this filly’s run in the Adrian Knox last week and after opening at $17 in the market earlier in the week, she is now into $13.

Settling last in a big field, the Newnham trained 3yo unleashed a grinding run down the outside to only finish a few strides short in 2nd place.

There’s no doubt she lacks the class of high profile fillies like Montefilia, Hungry Heart or Harmony Rose, who she will face in the here but what we are always sure to see in Oaks and Derbys are 3yos getting out to a tough staying distance for the first time.

A few of those more fancied runners will no doubt be found wanting over the last 100m. From what we saw Saturday, Bargain will certainly get the trip.

Randwick Race 7 – She’s Ideel

She’s Ideel has been ultra consistent this preparation, not missing a place from 4 starts. Most recently she flew home from the rear to finish 2.3L away in 2nd in the G1 Tancred.

The main selling point here is she drops down 7kg to 50kg coming from WFA to handicap conditions. From what we saw over 2400m it’s hard to see her not running a strong 3200m. Looks a great bet!

Randwick Race 9 – Probabeel

Probabeel is an outstanding mare with multiple G1 wins on her record and I like her chances adding to that list back against her own sex here.

She failed last start in the All Star Mile at Melbourne but I was taken with her trial at Randwick since returning.

She settled at the rear of the field and looked as though she was in for a quiet trial to keep her ticking over. McEvoy stoked her up before the turn when she was some 10 lengths off the lead and she rattled home amazing sectionals to win the trial showing she’s still got plenty of that competitive grit in the tank this preparation. The time was a whole second quicker than the only other 1200m trial on the morning.

Tip: 2 Units Win Probabeel @$2.5 With TopSport
