The Plunge’s Black Book: Horses Running At Randwick 13/2
February 12, 2021
Things are really starting to heat up heading towards the Sydney Autumn Carnival. I have 3 Black Book runners returning on Apollo Stakes Day at Randwick. Two are emerging talents from the Cummings yard and another is a 1st up specialist lining up in the Southern Cross Stakes.

Randwick Race 6 – Standout
An interesting race where two of my black bookers that met in a trial at Rosehill on January 15 square off again when they look to finally find a dry track at Randwick on Saturday.
On that day Masked Crusader defeated Standout by 2.8L when he cruised to the front and led all the way. Standout was ridden stone cold at the rear of the field and when McEvoy gave him a shake at the 400m he rattled home strongly.
I give him the slight edge under race conditions where there will be more pressure. His record is also much stronger with 1st up stats of 3:2-0-0 with his biggest win coming 1st up this time last year when he won the G2 Expressway Stakes.
Masked Crusader looks to be a horse on the rise and does get in well at the weights but I cant get past the fact that last prep he failed to break through in 3 attempts in BM 88 races. A grade Standout is far beyond. If the rain comes I may reverse the two runners.

Randwick Race 8 – Thermosphere
Thermosphere was fantastic 1st up taking on the older boys in a BM 88 at Rosehill a fortnight ago. She comes back to fillies grade here in the G2 Light Fingers Stakes and I believe she represents great value at $11.
In a race dominated by on pace runners, she produced an eye-catching run late to finish 0.4L behind experienced sprinter Big Parade.
I am slightly worried about barrier 11 but will back Nash Rawiller to weave some magic and slot in somewhere just worse than midfield.

Randwick Race 9 – Subedar
Subedar is a 4yo gelding from the Cummings yard that I expect to work his way up to stakes company this autumn. To do that the grey son of Sepoy should be winning this BM 88.
I took special note of his 1st run in over a year when he charged home from last to finish 0.5L behind All Time Legend. He loomed up and looked like he was going to go past the winner but laid in under pressure at the wrong time.
James Cummings had previously declared that he was going to need the run, so after another trial I am expecting a big run here.
Tip: 3 Units Win Subedar @$2.9
