Kembla Race 2 – Mamaragan
Mamaragan is a gelding that I expect to show sharp improvement this campaign after trainer John Thompson confessed he got it wrong last preparation when the then 3yo was trained to work his way up to a mile in races like the Caufield Guineas and the Golden Rose. In his 2yo season he finished 3rd in a Golden Slipper at just his 2nd race start.
He will now be set for sprint races and this BM 88 looks a lovely kill for him to begin a preparation where he will no doubt be targeted for stronger races.
He has demonstrated great form with two impressive trials at Randwick the past month. In the first trial he flew home from the rear to finish 0.5L behind the speedy Fituese. In the second he showed his versatility by leading all the way under a strong hold. Another positive from those trials is that he had Nash Rawiller who usually carries an extra couple of kilograms at the trials compared to other jockeys. Nash sticks today.
All Time Legend is another black book runner of mine that scares me but the 3kg weight advantage to Mamaragan is a big tick. Expect both geldings to sit just off Big Parade and ultimately fight out the finish.
