The Plunge’s Black Book: Horses Running At Caufield & Kembla 28/8

A  4yo gelding that has produced two great trials and looks to work its way back into stronger races is my black book runner at Kembla’s city meeting this Saturday.

Caufield Race 6 – Masked Crusader

This Hawkes sprinter looks to have found an ideal race to begin its’ prep south of the border. His trial was sublime when he came from the rear and and blew them away up the straight. His record of 2:0-1-1 at 1100m is a slight concern but I am willing to bet on him to add a win to that against a field he should be too good for.

Kembla Race 5 – Coastwatch

I loved the run of Coastwatch on this track a fortnight ago finishing 2nd behind the impressive Tiger of Malay where he was strong through the line. He profiles to run a great race 3rd up over 1400m here. From barrier 1, expect him to settle a little better than midfield and if J Mac gets the right splits at the top of the straight then he should be very difficult to hold out.

Tip: 2 Units Unit Coastwatch @$3

Kembla Race 7 – Harpo Marx

Harpo Marx certainly isn’t the best stayer in this field nor is he on the path to the G1 Metropolitan Handicap like some of his rivals but there are 2 factors that are too hard to go past. He drops a massive 9.5kg from his last start victory at Randwick in BM 78 grade and he is in peak fitness against some quality runners who will no doubt need the run. Rachel King has a great affinity with him and he looks a great bet at the price.

Tip: 2 Units Win Harpo Marx @$6.5
