According to Michael David Smith of NBC Sports on Monday, the Houston Texans have signed Nick Chubb of Cedartown, Georgia to a one-year deal worth $2.5 million. Chubb has played the last seven seasons with the Cleveland Browns, and was selected to the Pro Bowl on four occasions, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022.

This past season Chubb only played eight games due to a knee injury and broken foot. He had 102 rushes for 332 rushing yards and three touchdown runs, alongside five catches for 31 receiving yards and another major score.

Chubb’s most notable game came on November 21 in a 24-19 Browns win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. In very snowy conditions, Chubb had 60 total yards and two touchdowns. Both of his major scores were rushing touchdowns and were of two yards each.

When healthy, Chubb was considered one of the very best running backs in the National Football League. In all four of the seasons he was selected to the Pro Bowl, Chubb reached 1000 yards rushing, including a career-high 1525 rushing yards in 2022.

One thing to keep in mind is the fact that the Texans have not always had success in acquiring running backs. When the Texans acquired David Johnson and a second round pick in a trade with the Arizona Cardinals for DeAndre Hopkins, at the time of that transaction, Hopkins was considered the second most valuable player in the NFL. ESPN gave the Texans a grade of F, and the Cardinals were given a B+. With Houston, Chubb is expected to be the backup running back behind Joe Mixon.
