Felix Auger-Aliassime wins 2022 Swiss Indoors
November 1, 2022

For the second time this season, Felix Auger-Aliassime of Montreal, Quebec has won an ATP 500 tour event. On Sunday, he defeated Holger Rune of Denmark in the final of the Swiss Indoors 6-3, 7-5. Auger-Aliassime’s first ATP 500 victory came in February, when he beat Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece 6-4, 6-2 in Rotterdam.Â
You could make the argument that Auger-Aliassime’s speciality has become the indoor hardcourt. He has followed in the footsteps of Canadian Milos Raonic of Thornhill, Ontario, who won five indoor hardcourt titles from 2011 to 2015. Auger-Aliassime’s win in Basel, was actually his fourth indoor title of 2022, as he also won earlier this month in Florence and Antwerp.
In Basel this week, Auger-Aliassime defeated home country favourite Marc-Andrea Huesler of Switzerland 6-7, 6-4, 6-4 in round one, clobbered Miomir Kecmanovic of Serbia, 6-1, 6-0 in round two, Alexander Bublik of Kazakhstan 6-2, 6-3 in the quarterfinals, and the number one ranked player in the world and 2022 United States Open champion, Carlos Alcaraz of Spain, 6-3, 6-2 in the semifinals.
With the win, Auger-Aliassime moves past Andrey Rublev of Russia into eighth place in the ATP World Rankings. He now has 3725 points. The eighth place matches a career-high, which he first held in late August of 2022.
Auger-Aliassime also moved closer to qualifying for the 2022 ATP World Tour Finals in Turin later in November. However, before that tournament takes place, the Paris Indoors takes place this week. Auger-Aliassime is one of four players battling it out for two spots. He is joined in France this week with Rublev, Taylor Fritz of the United States and Hubert Hurkacz of Poland.
