Steve Smith claims record-tying fourth Allan Border Medal

Australian vice-captain Steve Smith claimed the fourth Allan Border Medal of his career overnight, tying greats Ricky Ponting and Michael Clarke for the equal-most all-time.
Smith finished 27 votes ahead of Travis Head and 30 votes ahead of David Warner for the top gong.
The 33-year-old, who had won the award in 2015, 2018, and 2021, played 47 games across the three formats during the voting period – 10 Tests, 17 ODIs, and 20 T20Is – scoring 1,524 runs including a trio of Test centuries.
Beth Mooney, meanwhile, claimed the second Belinda Clark Award of her illustrious career.

The 2021 Belinda Clark Award recipient, Mooney finished ahead of Meg Lanning and Tahlia McGrath in voting thanks to her 1,109 runs across all formats at 69.31.
Usman Khawaja was awarded the inaugural Shane Warne Men’s Test Player of the Year as well as the Community Impact Award.
The 36-year-old, who notched 1,020 Test runs at 78.46, narrowly beat Marnus Labuschagne to claim the award.
Warner took home the Men’s ODI Player of the Year award whilst Marcus Stoinis was named the Men’s T20 Player of the Year.
Mooney also received the Women’s ODI Player of the Year award with McGrath earning Women’s T20 Player of the Year honours.
Adelaide Strikers opener Matt Short was awarded the BBL Player of the Tournament award with Sydney Thunder allrounder Ashleigh Gardner the WBBL Player of the Tournament.
Queensland and Brisbane Heat star Michael Neser was awarded the Men’s Domestic Player of the Year with Victorian allrounder Annabel Sutherland the Women’s Domestic Player of the Year.
Western Australian quick Lance Morris received the Bradman Young Cricketer award with Courtney Sippel earning the Betty Wilson Young Cricketer award.
The Australian men’s Test team will now travel to India for a highly-anticipated, four-Test Border-Gavaskar series.
