April 12, 2024
According to Dave Bryan of Steelers Depot on Tuesday, the Pittsburgh Steelers have signed tight end MyCole Pruitt of South Bend, Indiana to a one-year deal worth $1.26 million. Pruitt is joining his sixth National Football League franchise. He was previously with the Minnesota Vikings (2015 and 2016), the Chicago Bears (2016), Houston Texans (2017), the Tennessee Titans (2018 to 2021), and the Atlanta Falcons (2022 to 2023).
This past season in Atlanta, Pruitt had nine catches for 110 receiving yards and one touchdown. The major score came in a 13-8 Falcons win over the New York Jets on December 3. Pruitt’s touchdown catch was for 20 yards and at the time put the Falcons up 7-2. Desmond Ridder of Louisville, Kentucky threw the touchdown pass at 4:56 of the second quarter. This was the only touchdown in the entire game.
Pruitt joins new Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith of Memphis, Tennessee in Pittsburgh. Pruitt and Smith were together wit the Titans and Falcons. Smith was fired as head coach of the Falcons on January 8 and replaced by Raheem Morris of Newark, New Jersey. Smith was then hired as the Steelers offensive coordinator on February 2. He replaced Matt Canada, who was fired midseason on November 21. At the time, the Steelers named Eddie Faulkner of Muncie, Indiana as the interim offensive coordinator. He will stay on as running backs coach, a position he has held since 2019.
Pruitt will be behind Pat Freiermuth of Newburyport, Massachusetts on the Steelers depth chart at tight end in 2024. Last season, Freiermuth had 32 catches for 308 receiving yards and two touchdowns in 12 games.
