Sloane Stephens marries American soccer star Jozy Altidore

According to Lindsay Kimble of People Magazine on Tuesday, American tennis star Sloane Stephens of Plantation, Florida got married to United States soccer star Jozy Altidore of Livingston, New Jersey on New Year’s Day at the St. Regis Bal Harbour in Miami, Florida. Stephens is 28 years old and Altidore is 32 years old.
The marriage came 16 days prior to the Australian Open. Stephens is currently ranked 65th in the world, and is best known for winning the 2017 United States Open where she beat fellow American Madison Keys in the final, 6-3, 6-0. In fact at the 2017 United States Open, there were four American semifinalists as Stephens and Keys were joined by CoCo Vandeweghe and Venus Williams.
In 2021, Stephens had a record of 21 wins and 18 losses. Her best result was reaching the semifinals of the 2021 Emilia-Romagna Open in Parma, Italy. There Stephens lost to Qiang Wang of China, 6-2, 7-6.

Altidore meanwhile has played for Toronto FC in Major League Soccer since 2015. In 2017, he was the MLS Cup most valuable player as he scored the game winning goal for Toronto FC in a 2-0 win over the Seattle Sounders. It was the first and only MLS Cup victory in the history of the Toronto FC franchise.
On the international side, Altidore has 42 goals in 115 appearances with the United States national team since 2007. He has represented the United States at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, but was unable to score on the world’s biggest soccer stage. In 2010, the United States scored five goals before being beaten 2-1 by Ghana in the round of 16. Then in 2014, the Americans scored five goals again before being beaten 2-1 by Belgium in the round of 16.
