Skipper Tohu adds one more year to his Warriors deal

Tohu Harris has extended his contract with the New Zealand Warriors, with the club captain now set to play through to the end of the 2025 NRL season with the club.

The extension will see Harris captain the Kiwi club for nearly half a decade. He was first handed the skipper’s hat in 2022 and has been a stalwart commander on and off the field ever since. Even before he became captain, Tohu was a major light for the Warriors, joining in 2018 and immediately slotting in perfectly.

This season saw the veteran prop play 23 of 27 matches—his most in some years due to ongoing injuries. He averaged 69 playing minutes in each of those two dozen matches, making 40 tackles and running 140 metres on average.

Under his watchful eye, the Warriors made their first preliminary final in the NRL in 12 years.

He also clocked up some stellar individual milestones, including 100 games for the New Zealand outfit and 200 games in the top flight. The 31-year-old spent those first century of games with the Melbourne Storm between 2013 and 2017 where he made two grand finals, won one in 2017, and was crowned club world champions in 2013.

On the signing, Warriors head coach Andrew Webster said: “I’m a huge fan of Tohu’s. He’s an unbelievable player and person who means so much to our club.

“Without him and his leadership on and off the field, we certainly wouldn’t be where we are right now. When I first talked to him before returning here I was so impressed by his passion and what he wants for the club. He proved that throughout the last season and now he has the opportunity to take the team further as we seek more improvement.”

Harris capped off his stellar 2023 season by being named among the finalists for the Dally M Captain of the Year award, though Adam Reynolds eventually took out the top gong.
