Semifinals set for Wimbledon 2023

We now know who will be in the final four on the men’s side and women’s side of Wimbledon 2023. In the quarterfinals on Wednesday, there were two men’s matches and two women’s matches.
In women’s quarterfinal Wednesday play, Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus, the number two seed, beat Madison Keys of the United States, the 25th seed, 6-2, 6-4. Sabalenka won 74 points compared to 57 for Keys, while Sabalenka only had 14 unforced errors compared to 22 for Keys. Meanwhile, Ons Jabeur of Tunisia, the number six seed, beat Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan 6-7, 6-4, 6-1. Jabeur had 35 winners compared to 21 for Rybakina, and won 100 total points.
In men’s quarterfinal Wednesday play, the third seed Daniil Medvedev of Russia defeated Christopher Eubanks of the United States 6-4, 1-6, 4-6, 7-6, 6-1. The biggest difference was unforced errors. Medvedev only had 13 unforced errors, while Eubanks had 55. Meanwhile, first seed Carlos Alcaraz of Spain defeated sixth ranked Holger Rune of Denmark 7-6, 6-4, 6-4. Alcaraz had 35 winners compared to 26 for Rune, and like Medvedev, only had 13 unforced errors.
In women’s quarterfinal Tuesday play, Marketa Vondrousova of the Czech Republic defeated the fourth seed Jessica Pegula of the United States 6-4, 2-6, 6-4. Meanwhile, Elina Svitolina beat Iga Swiatek of Poland, 7-5, 6-7, 6-2. In men’s quarterfinal Tuesday play, Novak Djokovic of Serbia, the second seed, beat Andrey Rublev of Russia, the sixth seed, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4, 6-3. Meanwhile, the eighth seed Jannik Sinner of Italy beat Roman Safiullin of Russia 6-4, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. Sinner had 14 aces compared to eight for Safiullin, and had only two double faults compared to seven for Safiullin.
In Thursday women’s semifinal action, Jabeur will play Sabalenka, and Svitolina will play Vondrousova. Sabalenka is 3-1 all-time against Jabeur. One of Sabalenka’s wins was a 6-4, 6-3 in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon in 2021.
In Friday men’s semifinal action, Medvedev will play Alcaraz and Djokovic will play Sinner. Medvedev is 1-1 all-time against Alcaraz. Medvedev beat Alcaraz 6-4, 6-1, 6-2 in the second round of Wimbledon in 2021. Alcaraz beat Medvedev 6-3, 6-2 in the finals of Indian Wells earlier this year. Djokovic meanwhile has beaten Sinner twice. Djokovic’s first win came in the second round of Monte Carlo in 2021, 6-4, 6-2. Djokovic’s second win came in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon in 2022, 5-7, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2.
