Olympic gold medalist Scottie Scheffler of Ridgewood. New Jersey continued his remarkable golf season of 2024 on Sunday. His latest win was the Tour Championship in Atlanta. As a result, Scheffler won the FedEx Cup, and $25 million. This was Scheffler’s first ever FedEx Cup victory and his first ever win at a FedEx Cup event.
Scheffler entered the event at -10, and a two-stroke lead over Xander Schauffele of San Diego, California. From there, Scheffler shot a first round score of six-under-par 65, a second round score of five-under-par 66, a third round score of five-under-par 66 again, and a fourth round score of four-under-par 67.
Scheffler had one eagle in the tournament. That came in the fourth round on Sunday when he registered a score of three on a par five. The eagle put Scheffler at -30, as he parred the last four holes.
There was one hole the gave Scheffler difficulty over the weekend. That happened to be the first hole as he bogeyed the hole in the first and third round with a score of five on a par four.
Even though Schauffele won two majors this season, it is expected to be a slam dunk that Scheffler will be the PGA Tour Player of the Year. Scheffler’s other titles came at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, Players Championship, Masters, RBC Heritage, Memorial, Travelers, and the 2014 Olympic Games in Paris. This was Scheffler’s second Masters as he also won in 2022.
Scheffler’s closest competitor in Atlanta was also a multiple major champion. Collin Morikawa of Los Angeles, California won the 2020 PGA Championship and 2021 British Open. He was at -26.
