There is a two-way tie for the lead at the halfway point at the 2024 Women’s PGA Championship in Seattle, Washington. Those players in first place are Amy Yang of South Korea and Sara Schmelzel of the United States.

Yang and Schmelzel are both at six-under-par. Yang began the tournament on Thursday with a score of two-under-par 70, and continued on Friday with a score of four-under-par 68. Schmelzel opened with a one-under-par 71, and then sizzled in round two with a five-under-par 67.

Schmelzel had two birdies and one bogey on Thursday. She birdied the 14th and 16th holes, and bogeyed the 15th. Then on Friday, Schmelzel had six birdies and one bogey. She birdied the second, fifth, seventh, 10th, 17th, and 18th holes, and bogeyed the 13th hole.

Yang had three birdies and one bogey in round one. She birdied the second, third, and 10th holes, and then bogeyed the fourth hole. In round two, Yang had four birdies. She birdied the sixth, seventh, 15th, and 18th holes.

Six more golfers are in contention. Tied for third place at -4 and two strokes back are three major champions. They are Hinako Shibuno of Japan, the 2019 Women’s British Open champion; round one leader Lexi Thompson of Coral Springs, Florida, the 2014 Kraft Nabisco Championship winner; and two-time major champion Jin-Young Ko of South Korea. Ko won the 2019 ANA Inspiration and 2019 Evian Masters.

Three more golfers are tied for sixth place at -3. There you can find Japan’s Miyu Yamashita, Ireland’s Leona Maguire, and South Korea’s Hae Ran Ryu. On Friday, Ryu moved up 48 spots. After starting the tournament with an opening round score of two-over-par, she shot a second round score of five-under-par 67.
