Saints cornerback Patrick Robinson retires at age 33
August 12, 2021

According to Mike Triplett of ESPN on Tuesday, New Orleans Saints cornerback Patrick Robinson of Miami, Florida retired at age 33. Robinson played 11 National Football League seasons with the Saints, San Diego Chargers, Indianapolis Colts, and Philadelphia Eagles.
This past season with the Saints, Robinson played 12 games and had 14 combined tackles (11 solo tackles and three assisted tackles), one tackle for a loss, four pass deflections and two interceptions. Both of Robinson’s interceptions last season came in Saints wins. The first was in the Saints’ 35-29 win over the Detroit Lions on October 4, and the second came in the Saints’ 27-13 win over the San Francisco 49ers on November 15.
In Robinson’s career, he played in 123 regular season games. He had 338 combined tackles (281 solo tackles, 57 assisted tackles), 14 tackles for a loss, five quarterback hits, two sacks, 16 interceptions for 195 yards and one touchdown, 83 pass deflections, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. Robinson’s lone career regular season touchdown came in a 28-13 Saints win over the Eagles on November 5, 2012. Robinson’s pick six was for 99 yards.
In the playoffs, Robinson won a Super Bowl with the Eagles in 2018. During the 2018 NFC Championship, Robinson picked off a Case Keenum pass and had a 50-yard interception return for a touchdown. It was Philly’s first major score in a 38-7 romp over the Vikings. In eight NFL postseason games, Robinson also had 12 combined tackles (all solo tackles), and three pass deflections.
There was a belief that Robinson could be a starting cornerback for the Saints this season. He was initially selected in the first round, 32nd overall, in the NFL Draft by the Saints in the 2010 NFL Draft out of Florida State. During his time with the Seminoles, Robinson was coached by legendary football coach Bobby Bowden, who died of pancreatic cancer at the age of 91 on Sunday.
Robinson is one of two high-profile Saints to have retired in the offseason. The other is future NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Drew Brees.
