October 8, 2025

The Texas Rangers have named Skip Schumaker of Torrance, California as their new manager according to Tatum DeHart and Stephen Hawkins of The Associated Press on Monday. Schumaker is managing his second Major League Baseball franchise after being with the Miami Marlins in 2023 and 2024.
While with the Marlins, Schumaker had a record of 146 wins and 176 losses for a winning percentage of .453. In Schumaker’s first season managing the Marlins in 2023, he had a record of 84 wins and 78 losses, and was named the National League Manager of the Year. The Marlins finished in third place in the National League East, and reached the postseason. Miami however lost two games to none to the Philadelphia Phillies in the National League Wildcard Series.
In Texas, Schumaker takes over from Bruce Bochy of Bussac-Foret, France. Bochy had managed the Rangers the last three seasons and won the 2023 World Series in Texas as the Rangers beat the Arizona Diamondbacks in five games. In 2025, the Rangers were at the .500 mark (81 wins and 81 losses), and the Rangers parted ways with the 70-year-old Bochy at the end of the season.
As a player, Schumaker played 11 Major League Baseball seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals, Los Angeles Dodgers and Cincinnati Reds from 2005 to 2015. In 11 Major League Baseball seasons in the outfield and second base, he batted .278 with 28 home runs and 284 runs batted in. During 1149 games, 3252 at bats, and 3582 plate appearances, Schumaker scored 416 runs and had 905 hits, 169 doubles, 13 triples, 26 stolen bases, 280 walks, 1184 total bases, 19 sacrifice bunts, 16 sacrifice flies, and on base percentage of .337, and a slugging percentage of .364.
