Randwick Preview: Rare Diamond Anamoe Ready For The Apollo
February 11, 2023

SUPERSTAR Anamoe begins a program that could culminate with a trip to Europe to take on the worlds’ best horses later in the year when he starts in the Group 1 Apollo Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on Saturday.
Last campaign he put together four straight wins kicking off with a first-up win in the Winx Stakes and ending with the Cox Plate. He finished his campaign with a disappointing fourth in the VRC Champions Stakes.
His trainer James Cummings described Anamoe “as a rare diamond” and he said this preparation was about building on his amazing record.
“He gets another chance this preparation with a nicely laid-out campaign to go even a little bit better.”
Cummings said Anamoe was “going beautifully” and was where he wanted him to be starting off his campaign.
“He’ll have a suitable amount of improvement after this run, but we’re very pleased with him,” Cummings said.
Anamoe will be against his old foe Mo’unga as well as Cox Plate placegetter El Bodegon and Law Of Indices.

Cummings and Godolphin’s gun three-year-old filly In Secret will also resume from a spell in the Light Fingers Stakes (1200 metres).
Cummings said he considered running In Secret first-up in the Black Caviar Lightning Stakes at Flemington next Saturday.
Despite that he said In Secret faced some good fillies and she would need things to go right for her.
“We’ve really been pleased with her straightforward preliminary with two very soft trials in the lead-up.”
“She’ll be feeling very fresh and we’d like to see her hit the ground running and get a clear crack at them.”
“She didn’t get the best of luck last time over six furlongs at Randwick in the (G2) Silver Shadow, when she was beaten a length by Zougotcha.”
In Secret is $1.80 favourite with TopSport for Group 2 event over 1200 metres.
