According to Paul Kasabian of Bleacher Report on Monday, the Las Vegas Raiders have signed have signed cornerback Marcus Peters of Oakland, California to a one-year contract worth $5 million. The Raiders will become the fourth National Football League team Peters has played for. He was previously with the Kansas City Chiefs from 2015 to 2017, the Los Angeles Rams in 2018 and 2019, and the Baltimore Ravens since 2019.
You could actually make the argument that Peters has been the best cornerback in the NFL over the last eight years. As a rookie with the Chiefs in 2015, he was the Associated Press Defensive Rookie of the Year. That year he led the NFL in interceptions (eight), yards from an interception (280), touchdowns from an interception (two), and pass deflections (26). Peters also has led the NFL in yards from an interception (137 while with the Chiefs in 2017, and 210 with the Raiders and Ravens in 2019), and touchdowns from an interception (three in 2019).
In 2023 with the Ravens, Peters had 47 combined tackles (35 solo tackles and 12 assisted tackles), two tackles for a loss, one quarterback hit, one interception for eight yards, six pass deflections, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and one sack in 13 games. Peters had an interception, forced fumble and fumble recovery on September 25 in a 37-26 Ravens win over the New England Patriots. Peters’s lone sack and quarterback hit this past season came in a 19-17 Ravens win over the Cincinnati Bengals on October 9. Peters’s other forced fumble came in a 13-3 Ravens’s win over the Carolina Panthers on November 20.
It is not surprising that Peters did not return to the Ravens. That is because Baltimore signed cornerback Rock Ya-Sin of Decatur, Georgia to a one-year deal worth $6 million on May 3. Ironically, Ya-Sin played for the Raiders in 2022.
