RACING: Wyong Best Selection & Value Play 10/1 IMAGE: Bradley Photos

Saturday Sydney racing takes place at Wyong this week where they will host their $500k Lakes Mile race. Our analyst is keen on a Pfieffer speedster that should be suited by the tight Wyong track and a Baker runner on the back up in the feature as the value play.

Best Selection: R8- Whinchat

The David Pfieffer gelding ticks a few boxes landing on-speed at Wyong and comes to this 2nd up and after an impressive tick over trial where he went right to the line with Zealously under a tight hold. He does have a tendency to step slow, which has proven to be costly in large fields. He does get a small 8 horse field where he should be able to lead if he is half a stride slow. Accredited is a deserving short-priced favourite but does giving away 4.5kg to Whinchat.

Value Selection: R9- Robusto

Robusto backs up after a tough 0.9L 2nd in the Buffering at Eagle Farm last Saturday. He sat wide and on-speed for the trip but still fought right to the line only to be nailed by Need Some Luck benefiting from a much softer run. He looks to have found a slightly easier race coming back to NSW for The Lakes and has been proven in tougher races finishing 3rd in the G2 Ingham over a mile 2 starts back and winning the Listed Winter Challenge back in July. Gate 15 looked horrendous when fields were first released but after 5 scratchings he will come into 10. The travel and 1 week back up is a query but I always lean towards having faith in great trainers like Bjorn Baker.
