RACING TIPS: Warwick Farm Best Selection & Value Play 22/10
October 21, 2025
Midweek Sydney racing heads to Warwick Farm for the 2nd consecutive week. Our analyst likes a Waller stayer getting a great set up and a Written Tycoon colt in a small field as the value play.

Best Selection: R5- Captain Maverick
Captain Maverick looks a good bet in the card’s staying event. He sat on top of a strong tempo when 0.3L 2nd over 2200m here with a 3.2L gap back to 3rd. They ran great time and this doesn’t look to have the same quality being a small field with a long tail. His 0.7L 2nd to Kuja Kibo back in August reads well. The only knock is that he’s only won once in 17 Aus starts.

Value Selection: R2 – Pictor
I thought Pictor was outstanding breaking his maiden at Kensington last start. The win was as professional as it gets breaking 1st out of the gates and settling nicely 1 out and 1 back. The well supported leader pinched a nice break after the turn but the Written Tycoon colt balanced with before exploding the final 200m to claim the victory. The overall race time of 1.23.21 was 0.67s quicker than the BM72 won by the highly rated Dance to the Boom. The query has to be McDonald jumping off the ride Frosty Girl.
I’m not too concerned about the wide gate as he will have a long run from the shoot start to the home turn.
