The spring contenders begin to step out at Rosehill this Saturday. Our analyst is keen on a Freedman 3yo that has been trialling the house down and a Midway runner that caught the eye in G3 company when she was last 1st up as the value play.

Best Selection: R5- Pallaton

I was a big fan of Pallaton in his 2yo season after an impressive 2.7L win on debut at Randwick. He was a touch disappointing in his 2 subsequent runs attempting to qualify for the Slipper but his two return trials have been outstanding.

He has returned in great order off what we’ve seen at the trials. He backed up a 0.4L Randwick trial win with an even more impressive 1.3L win over 1044m. He settled midfield 3 and 4 wide without cover and claimed the lead shortly after straightening before powering away to win eased down. The time was the quickest of the morning over that trip, significantly faster than some of the older horses. He should settle behind the leader and if he gets a touch of luck on the turn we should be seeing his brilliant turn of foot. He gets in really well at the weights with only 54.5kg.

Value Selection: R1- Be Real

Be Real looks capable of running a race at big odds. She will no doubt be looking for further but she showed she was better than Midway company 1st up last prep when hitting the line strongly to finish 1.9L 4th in the G3 Aspiration over a mile at Randwick. She should be able to land in the off midfield position from the perfect gate.
