RACING: Randwick Best Selection & Value Play 3/4
April 3, 2026
The Championships kick off at Randwick this Saturday with the Doncaster, TJ Smith, Aus Derby and Sires Produce headlining. Our analyst likes a proven sprinting mare benefiting from a great map and a tough Baker gelding as the value play.Â

Best Selection: R7- Joliestar
Joliestar looks way undervalued by the market. She has returned a furnished mare this prep taking out the G2 Expressway by 1.2L and the G1 Canterbury Stakes by 0.6L. She is the most accomplished horse in the race and gets big map upside over some of her market rivals. She could well land in the 1-1 or potentially 2 back at worst. She is now really consistent with her superb acceleration and get the set up to use it. The drop back to 1200m is a slight query but the month between runs should bring some zip back into her legs.

Value Selection: R8- Pericles
Pericles does looks a great each way bet in a Doncaster market dominated by Sheza Alibi at $2. The Futurity Stakes winner was outstanding in the G1 George Ryder. He was ridden aggressively out of the gates but found no luck trying to find a spot one off before drifting back to settle off midfield where he was still 3-wide before the turn. He was entitled to be weak late but still put in to the line to finish 3.1L 3rd. Where he lands from the wide gate is the main query but he is versatile and there is an EW price to take the risk marking him down for that. There was intent shown last start despite having to eventually drift back in the field after not finding cover.
