One of the biggest stories in the National Basketball Association this week was a fight that broke out between the Detroit Pistons and Charlotte Hornets on Monday. As a result, four players were disciplined with suspensions according to Doric Sam of Bleacher Report.
Pistons center Isaiah Stewart of Rochester, New York received the most disciplinary action. He has been suspended seven games, and as a result, has lost $724,138 in pay. Meanwhile, Pistons centre Jalen Duren has been suspended two games for instigating the altercation and fighting. On the Hornets side, forwards Miles Bridges and Moussa Diabete were both suspended four games themselves and for escalating the altercation.
Bridges lost $689,655 in pay, Duren lost $89,423 in pay, and Diabate lost $31, 320 in pay. With Diabate only making $2.3 million this season, the loss in pay for him is probably the most significant.
Stewart received the most discipline because he left the bench to confront Bridges. According to the Detroit Free Press, Stewart has a history in getting involved in fights. This is the fifth time that Stewart has had a NBA fight.
The Hornets have played great basketball lately, and the Pistons have played great basketball this season. Detroit leads the Eastern Conference with a record of 40 wins and 13 losses for a winning percentage of .755, while Charlotte have won nine of their last 10 games. Their only loss during the impressive stretch came on Monday night to Detroit, as the Pistons won 110-104 thanks to 33 points by former first overall pick Cade Cunningham. This snapped the Hornets’s nine game winning streak.
