The New England Patriots have traded Kayshon Boutte of New Iberia, Louisiana to the Houston Texans for defensive back Jaylen Reed of Detroit, Michigan according to DJ Bien-Aime of ESPN on Monday. In addition to Reed, the Patriots are receiving a seventh round pick in the 2028 National Football League Draft.
Boutte has played the last three seasons with the New England Patriots. In 2025, he had 33 catches for 551 receiving yards and six touchdowns. On October 12 in a 25-19 Patriots win over the New Orleans Saints, Boutte found the end zone twice as he caught touchdown passes of 25 yards and 29 yards from quarterback Drake Maye. Also this past season, Boutte recorded his first postseason touchdown. It was for 32 yards from Maye, and closed out the scoring in a 28-16 Patriots win in the AFC Divisional Round. Ironically, the Patriots playoff opponent on January 18 were the Texans.
In 34 games with the Patriots, Boutte has 78 catches for 1159 receiving yards and nine touchdowns. He had a career-high 117 receiving yards in a 23-16 Patriots win over the Buffalo Bills on January 5, 2025, in the final Patriots regular season game of the 2024 NFL season.
Reed was a rookie for the Texans in 2025. Even though he is listed as a defensive back, Reed also is listed as a safety. In seven games this past season, Reed had 14 combined tackles (nine solo tackles and five assisted tackles), and one fumble recovery for nine yards. The fumble recovery came in a 23-19 Texans win over the Buffalo Bills on November 20.
