Patriots move on from head coach Bill Belichick

For the second straight day, an announcement was made that a Super Bowl winning coach would no longer be coaching the team he won a Super Bowl with. Just hours after the Seattle Seahawks announced that Pete Carroll would not be back to coach his team next year, the New England Patriots announced that 71-year-old Bill Belichick of Nashville, Tennessee would not be back to coach his team either.
One must realize that it appears that Belichick, a six-time Super Bowl winning coach with the Patriots over the last two decades, may not be done coaching. While Carroll was reassigned in Seattle to an advisory role, Belichick has not announced his retirement from coaching. In fact, he has been linked to the Los Angeles Chargers organization.
In all, Belichick has coached 29 National Football League seasons. He has a record of 302 wins and 165 losses, for a winning percentage of .647. However, one must wonder if Belichick was a beneficiary of Tom Brady’s greatness, who we believe is the greatest football player of all-time, or if he was responsible for executing an outstanding plan for Brady to succeed.
The verdict is still out. One cannot argue the fact that without Brady, Belichick’s resume could be considered below ordinary. With the Cleveland Browns as their head coach from 1991 to 1995, Belichick had a record of only 36 wins and 44 losses for a winning percentage of .450, and with the New England Patriots as their head coach without Brady at quarterback, he has a record of 46 wins and 54 losses for a winning percentage of .460.
