Patrick Mahomes has tied Tom Brady as the fastest quarterback to 100 career wins after the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Los Angeles Chargers 22-6 at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday (US time).
The win was Mahomes’ 100th with the Chiefs in his 131st regular-season start, matching Brady for the fewest starts needed to reach the milestone in NFL history (since 1950), ESPN reported.
Mahomes, now in his 10th season, saw the funny side when asked about the comparison. “I’m like, ‘When did Tom lose another game?’” he said with a laugh, according to ESPN. “I feel like every game I win, I tie him.”
“In all seriousness, it’s always an honor to be in any conversation, as far as winning [games], with him,” Mahomes said. “That’s the GOAT. He knows how to win football [games] better than anyone, really. If you can be mentioned in any category with him, it’s special.”
Chiefs stay perfect
Mahomes completed 23 of 30 passes for 272 yards with one interception, while Kenneth Walker III ran for 128 yards and two touchdowns and Harrison Butker kicked three field goals, according to the ESPN box score. Xavier Worthy caught a season-high seven passes for 73 yards.

Kansas City did it without its top two receivers, Rashee Rice (right hamstring) and Tyquan Thornton (dislocated left ankle), ESPN reported. Mahomes completed all 13 of his first-half passes when he wasn’t under pressure, for 140 yards, according to ESPN Research.
The Chiefs are 5-0 and the only unbeaten team in the AFC, while the Chargers fell to 0-6. Justin Herbert threw for 204 yards with an interception and was sacked four times.
“We’re lucky to have him,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said of Mahomes. “He does a heck of a job playing. He’s a great player, a great leader.”
A long way to Brady’s 251
The milestone came against the same opponent as the most serious injury of Mahomes’ career. He tore the ACL and LCL in his left knee in the Chiefs’ loss to the Chargers on 14 December last season, a defeat that ended Kansas City’s playoff hopes.
Brady finished his career with 251 regular-season wins and seven Super Bowl titles, and Mahomes said he isn’t looking that far ahead.
“All I can focus on is today — and winning today,” he said. “I mean, he’s got like [almost] 15 more years. I’m only 31. He played until [he was] 45, so that’s a long way away.”
