The Green Bay Packers have signed tight end Jonnu Smith of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania according to Timothy Rapp of Bleacher Report on Thursday. The length of the contract is for one year, but the financial terms have not been released.
Smith is joining his sixth National Football League franchise. He was with the Tennessee Titans for four seasons from 2017 to 2020, the New England Patriots for two seasons from 2021 to 2022, the Atlanta Falcons in 2023, the Miami Dolphins for one season in 2024, and the Pittsburgh Steelers for one season in 2025.
Smith’s contract with the Steelers was two years and $16 million, but was released by Pittsburgh on March 5. When the Steelers released Smith, they saved $7 million in cap space.
This past season, Smith had 38 catches for 222 receiving yards and two touchdown catches. He also had nine rushes for 70 rushing yards and one touchdown. Smith’s 14 yard touchdown run came in a 28-15 Steelers win over the Miami Dolphins on December 15.
In 2024, Smith was selected to the Pro Bowl for the only time in his career. While wearing number nine for the Dolphins, Smith had 88 rushes for 884 receiving yards and eight touchdown catches. Interestingly, this was the only season Smith wore number nine as he has worn number 81 throughout the rest of his NFL career.
