The replays and sectional times have been reviewed from Day 2 of The Championships at Randwick on Saturday. Our analyst has found a 2yo that looks likely to step up as top 3yo next season and a lightly raced stayer that must be followed.

Tempted

It’s always an eye to future campaigns this late in the carnival but I think Tempted is going to be a top rate 3yo. He arguably should’ve won the Slipper. His win sitting 3-wide no cover in the Percy Sykes was full of obvious merit. They did go much quicker up front than the G2 Arrowfield in the preceding race but running 0.3 seconds quicker than the 3yos has to bode well.

Waltham

The Matt Smith stayer has in be in any 2 mile race he contests moving forward. He settled at the rear and was fantastic the last 150m making great ground to finish 2.9L 2nd to the brilliant Arapaho. It was a great run for only start 11 and he will take big improvement moving forward. The Brisbane Cup looks a great race for him.
