February 14, 2024

Our analyst has reviewed the sectional times, ratings & replays from last Saturday’s Caulfield meeting & has placed five horses you must follow in our black book below.
MAHAMADEIS/SKELM
Two veteran stayers who finished off in good fashion in the 2000 metres event. Mahamedeis, who is on a jumps campaign ran his last 200 metres in 12.08 seconds. Skelm was having his third run back from a long spell and also hit the line well. Both gallopers will be winning chances at their next starts.

ANOTHER WILL
He’s a horse going places. He cruised home to win the Benchmark 70 over 1600 metres in a quicker time by .63 seconds than his stablemate Yonce did to win the Carlyon Cup and he carried four kilos more. He was also eased down. The further the better for this Ciaron Maher trained galloper as well.

ZIPAWAY
Perth visitor who put his hand up as a genuine Australian Guineas chance with a pleasing third at his Melbourne debut in the Autumn Stakes. He finished on to get third then galloped strongly after the line in a manner which suggests he’s looking for 1600 metres.
FOXY CLEOPATRA
Great return from this classy lightly raced mare to run home from well back in a slowly run race. She will be better suited at Flemington. She’s capable of winning a big race in the weeks to come.

MATISSE
Excellent Blue Diamond Stakes trial from Anthony and Sam Freedman’s two-year-old filly. She went back from her wide draw and produced the second fastest last 400m for the meeting of 22.25 seconds to gain third. She was also strong after the line. It will be interesting to see whether Damian Lane stays with her for the big one.
