Storm smack Broncos to put bow on minor premiership charge
Melbourne finished off their regular season with a bang downing the Broncos 50-12 at Suncorp Stadium on Thursday night behind Jahrome Hughes and Will Warbrick hat-tricks.
Warbrick had two in the opening 12 minutes before Jahrome Hughes, Eliesa Katoa, and Harry Grant all crossed to put Melbourne up 28-6 at half-time.
Hughes grabbed two more whilst Xavier Coates also scored upon his injury return and Warbrick snagged a third late.
Warbrick scored three and ran for 296 metres with eight tackle breaks whilst Hughes scored three, assisted on two, and ran for 151 metres to cap off perhaps a Dally M Medal winning campaign.
Eels demolish Wests Tigers in Spoon Bowl
Parramatta handed the Wests Tigers their third wooden spoon in a row running out 60-26 winners at Campbelltown on Friday evening.
Tries to Maika Sivo, Daejarn Asi, Brendan Hands and Will Penisini saw the visitors take a 22-10 lead into the break.
The floodgates opened in the second forty with the Eels pouring on seven tries – Penisini and Sivo securing seconds and Clint Gutherson a double of his own – to avoid the spoon in comprehensive fashion
Penisini scored two and ran for 203 metres with six tackle breaks whilst Reagan Campbell-Gillard scored a try, assisted on another, and made 35 tackles.
Lachlan Galvin assisted on two tries and ran for 103 metres whilst Heath Mason ran for 131 metres with 10 tackle breaks.
Nawaqanitawase introduced as Roosters outlast Rabbitohs
The Roosters took down rivals the Rabbitohs 36-28 at Accor Stadium on Friday night behind a Junior Pauga hat-trick.
Former Wallaby Mark Nawaqanitawase got the Chooks on the board first to kick-off a back-and-forth opening stanza with Jye Gray and Cody Walker snagging four-pointers for the Bunnies and Pauga a double for the visitors as they took a four-point edge into the sheds.
The Roosters clicked into gear in the second half with James Tedesco notching a double along with Pauga’s third and a try to Sitili Tupouniua all in the space of 15 minutes which proved enough despite a quick Bunnies finish.
Tedesco scored two, assisted on two, and ran for 222 metres whilst Pauga scored three and ran for 139 metres.
Jye Gray scored two tries and ran for 108 metres whilst Tom Burgess scored a try, kicked a goal, and ran for 105 metres in his final NRL outing.
Horsburgh the hero as Raiders down Dragons
Canberra finished their year on a high coming back from an 18-point deficit to defeat the Dragons 26-24 at Kogarah on Saturday.
Four tries in the opening quarter of the contest to Tom Eisenhuth, Jacob Liddle, Jaydn Su’A and Lyhkan King-Togia saw the Red V jump out to a 24-6 lead
Tries to Xavier Savage, Albert Hopoate and Hudson Young saw the Raiders storm back to within four before Corey Horsburgh scored off his own grubber to win it for Ricky Stuart’s men.
Hopoate scored a try and ran for 265 metres whilst Young scored a try and ran for 221 metres with six tackle breaks.
Liddle scored a try and ran for 162 metres with nine tackle breaks whilst Su’A scored a try and ran for 190 metres.
Cowboys storm past undermanned Dogs, earn home elimination final
North Queensland will play at home week one of the finals having surged past the Bulldogs 44-6 at Accor Stadium on Saturday evening.
It was all North Queensland from the outset with Todd Payten’s side taking a 20-0 lead into the break behind tries to Kyle Feldt, Heilum Luki, and Scott Drinkwater.
Feldt grabbed a second before Valentine Holmes joined him on the scoresheet and Murray Taulagi nabbed a late double to seal it.
Drinkwater scored one, assisted on another, and ran for 167 metres with six tackle breaks whilst Taulagi scored two and ran for 202 metres.
Panthers eke out win vs. Titans, secure Top 2 finish
The Panthers will play another game at Penrith Park having downed the Titans 18-12 in a tight one at the foot of the mountains on Saturday night.
The Gold Coast took a 6-4 lead into the sheds courtesy of a Jayden Campbell pearler before the hosts jumped out to a double-digit lead with a half-hour to play.
An Alofiana Khan-Pereira intercept gave the Titans some late hope, but their fightback came up short.
Dylan Edwards scored a try, assisted on another, and ran for 225 metres with six tackle breaks whilst Brian To’o scored a try and ran for 224 metres with seven tackle breaks.
Campbell scored a try and ran for 182 metres with six tackle breaks whilst Chris Randall ran for 112 metres and made 46 tackles.
Sharks make statement vs. Manly at 4 Pines
Cronulla will ride into the finals with plenty of momentum thanks to a 40-20 win over Manly at 4 Pines Park on Sunday.
The visitors took a 16-8 edge into the sheds behind tries to Sione Katoa, Ronaldo Mulitalo, and Jack Williams.
Mulitalo grabbed a second before Daniel Atkinson followed him and Briton Nikora finished things off with a deserved double.
Nikora scored two and ran for 133 metres with six tackle breaks whilst Kayal Iro assisted on a try and ran for 152 metres with nine tackle breaks.
Toluta’u Koula scored a try, assisted on another, and ran for 177 metres whilst Haumole Olakau’atu scored a try and ran for 126 metres.
Knights out-grind Dolphins to punch finals ticket
The Knights will appear in the postseason having outlasted the Dolphins 14-6 in their win-or-go-home encounter in Newcastle on Sunday.
A hotly contested first half saw the Knights earn a 6-0 half-time lead with Adam Elliott the lone try-scorer before extending their lead to a dozen 44 minutes in courtesy of a Brodie Jones try.
A 53rd-minute penalty goal put them ahead by 14 with a late Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow try unable to spark a fightback.
Kalyn Ponga assisted on both tries and ran for 171 metres with 13 tackle breaks whilst Greg Marzhew ran for a team-high 229 metres with seven tackle breaks.
Tabuai-Fidow scored a try and ran for 159 metres with 11 tackle breaks whilst Herbie Farnworth ran for 281 metres with 11 tackle breaks.
