Cowboys outlast undermanned Storm
North Queensland limped their way to a 38-30 win over a Storm side down 11 regulars at QCB Stadium on Thursday night.
A back-and-forth opening saw the Cows take an 18-16 lead into the sheds with Kyle Feldt nabbing a double.
The seesawing nature of the affair continued into the second forty with a Tyran Wishart double tying things up at 24-apiece an hour in before tries to Reece Robson and Jeremiah Nanai sealed it for the hosts.
Feldt scored twice and ran for 126 metres whilst Murray Taulagi scored a try, assisted on another, and ran for 149 metres.
Wishart scored two and made 35 tackles whilst Sua Fa’alogo ran for 175 metres with nine tackle breaks and two line breaks.
Sea Eagles earn crucial win over Dogs at Accor
Manly pulled off a massive win downing the Dogs 34-22 in a potential finals preview in front of 35,502 fans at Accor Stadium on Friday evening.
Despite conceding a try in the opening set of the game, the Sea Eagles stormed to a 24-12 half-time lead behind tries to Jason Saab, Tom Trbojevic, Lehi Hopoate and Karl Lawton.
Hopoate grabbed a second on the other side of the break before Garrick crossed 51 minutes to earnt the visitors a 22-point buffer which proved enough despite late tries to Jacob Preston and Reed Mahoney.
Garrick scored a try, assisted on two others, and ran for 143 metres whilst Trbojevic scored a try and ran for 183 metres before exiting the game in worrying fashion with 15 to go.
Mahoney scored two and made 49 tackles whilst Bronson Xerri assisted on two line breaks and ran for 254 metres.
Panthers bounce back to down Rabbitohs
Penrith rocketed back into second spot with a 34-12 win over Souths at the foot of the mountains on Friday night.
Tries to James Fisher-Harris, Luke Garner, and Brad Schneider saw the hosts take an 18-12 lead into half-time.
Sunia Turuva scored back-to-back tries on the other side of the half before Isaah Yeo crossed to seal it for the Panthers.
Yeo scored a try, assisted on another, and ran for 170 metres whilst Paul Alamoti assisted on a try and ran for 192 metres with six tackle breaks.
Tyrone Munro scored a double and ran for 190 metres whilst Davvy Moale ran for 124 metres and made 26 tackles.
Eels stun Dragons in wild clash
The Dragons were dealt a crushing blow on Saturday afternoon at CommBank Stadium going down to Parramatta 44-40.
Parramatta found themselves up 44-12 entering the final 10 minutes with Maika Sivo bagging a hat-trick and Clint Gutherson a double along with tries to Will Penisini, Jake Tago, Shaun Lane and Dylan Brown.
The Dragons embarked on a frenzied comeback attempt in the final stages scoring five tries in the space of 11 minutes – with Mathew Feagai notching three and Tyrell Sloan two – only to come up short.
They become the first team in NRL history to score 40 points in a loss.
Brown scored a try, assisted on three others, and ran for 174 metres whilst Sivo scored three, assisted on another, and ran for 153 metres.
Sloan scored two and ran for 253 metres with six tackle breaks whilst Zac Lomax scored a try and ran for 186 metres.
Dolphins end Broncos’ finals hopes with Battle of Brisbane thumping
The Dolphins are one step closer to a maiden finals appearance having blown past the Broncos 40-6 in the Battle of Brisbane on Saturday.
A Jake Averillo double along with tries to Jamayne Isaako and Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow saw Wayne Bennett’s men take a 24-6 lead into the break.
Tabuai-Fidow snagged a second after half-time before Herbie Farnworth etched his name in the doubles column as the Dolphins stormed to a memorable win.
Farnworth scored two, assisted on two, and ran for 287 metres with seven tackle breaks whilst Tabuai-Fidow scored two, assisted on another, and ran for 204 metres.
SJ goes out a hero as Warriors edge Sharks
Shaun Johnson proved the match-winner in his final NRL match laying on a last-second try to push the Warriors over the Sharks 30-28 in the Shire on Saturday night.
The hosts jumped out to a 22-4 advantage behind tries to Teig Wilton, Kayal Iro, Sam Stonestreet and Tom Hazelton.
Four tries in 16 minutes – two to Dallin Watene-Zelezniak, one to Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad, and one to Marcelo Montoya – saw the Wahs earn a 26-22 lead.
Stonestreet bagged a second to put the Sharks up with less than 10 minutes to play before Johnson sent Watene-Zelezniak over for his third and the match-winner with 30 seconds on the clock.
Johnson assisted on three tries and ran for 176 metres whilst Addin Fonua-Blake ran for 211 metres and made 25 tackles.
Stonestreet scored two and ran for 203 metres whilst Braydon Trindall assisted on two tries and kicked for 474 metres.
Knights take down Titans to keep season alive
Newcastle’s finals hopes remain alive courtesy of a 36-14 win over the Titans at McDonald Jones Stadium on Sunday.
The Titans got off to a strong start with Jojo Fifita scoring just six minutes in before the tide turned firmly the way of the visitors.
Kalyn Ponga scored back-to-back tries before Fletcher Sharpe scored three in a row and Phoenix Crossland found one as they poured on 30 points in the space of 25 minutes.
Ponga scored two and ran for 218 metres with 10 tackle breaks whilst Dane Gagai assisted on two tries and ran for 190 metres with nine tackle breaks.
Fifita scored two and ran for 280 metres whilst debutant Jaylan De Groot scored a try and ran for 179 metres with five tackle breaks.
Chooks lose stars in Raiders loss
It proved a horror afternoon for the Roosters as they went down to the Raiders 14-12 at Allianz and lost Sam Walker, Brandon Smith, and Victor Radley to long-term injuries.
Tries to Elliott Whitehead and Simi Sasagi put the visitors up early before the former found himself binned for a hip drop which saw Smith leave the field.
Xavier Savage extended their lead midway through the second forty before Whitehead was binned for a second time paving the way for Daniel Tupou to score.
Tupou grabbed a second in the final minute with Luke Keary’s after-the-siren conversion waved away as the Raiders held on.
Savage scored a try and ran for 166 metres with four tackle breaks whilst Hudson Young ran for 124 metres with six tackle breaks and made 45 tackles.
James Tedesco assisted on a try and ran for 249 metres with 10 tackle breaks whilst Tupou scored two and ran for 234 metres.
