Raiders edge Warriors to end 4-game slide
Despite finishing with an extra try in their back pocket, the Warriors fell to the Raiders 20-18 in Canberra on Friday night.
A first-half Hudson Young double earnt the hosts a 14-0 lead before a Roger Tuivasa-Sheck try got the Warriors on the board shy of the break.
Tries to Kurt Capewell and Mitch Barnett tied proceedings at 14-apiece an hour in with a Xavier Savage try putting Canberra back ahead.
Addin Fonua-Blake crashed over with eight minutes to play only for Chanel Harris-Tavita’s conversion attempt to be waved away as the Raiders held on for a vital pair of competition points.
Young scored a double and made 47 tackles whilst Joseph Tapine ran for 205 metres and made 33 tackles.
Barnett scored a try, ran for 159 metres, and made 41 tackles just 48 hours on from his Origin debut whilst Tuivasa-Sheck scored a try and ran for a game-high 256 metres with five tackle breaks having shifted to the back with Taine Tuaupiki taken from the field with a head knock.
Rabbitohs take down Wests Tigers in Central Coast shootout
The Rabbitohs have won six of their past seven having downed the Wests Tigers 42-28 on the Central Coast on Saturday afternoon.
The Rabbits found themselves up early courtesy of quick tries to Davvy Moale and Cody Walker before teenagers Lachlan Galvin and Tallyn Da Silva hit back for Benji Marshall’s men.
An Alex Johnston double wrestled momentum back the way of the Bunnies before a Jahream Bula try on the stroke of the siren cut the deficit back to four.
Tries to Charlie Staines and Sione Fainu put the Wests Tigers ahead before the Rabbits finished fast via tries to Cody Walker, Peter Mamouzelos, and Jye Gray.
Taane Milne assisted on three tries and ran for 156 metres whilst Keaon Koloamatangi ran for 209 metres with seven tackle breaks and made 32 tackles.
Galvin scored a try, assisted on another, and ran for 187 metres whilst Fonua Pole ran for 155 metres and made 36 tackles.
Broncos too strong for Knights, snap 6-game losing streak
Brisbane are back finally in the winners circle after finishing atop the Knights 30-14 in Newcastle on Saturday.
A first-half Deine Mariner double along with a Reece Walsh try saw the visitors take a commanding 18-0 lead into the sheds.
Brendan Piakura extended the lead on the other side of the break before Jack Hetherington got over for the Knights only for Ezra Mam to race away soon after.
Late tries to Mat Croker and Greg Marzhew proved in vain with the Knights succumbing to their fifth loss from their past seven.
Mam scored a try, assisted on another, and ran for 209 metres whilst Walsh scored a try, assisted on two others, and ran for 174 metres.
Marzhew scored a try and ran for 163 metres with eight tackle breaks whilst Dylan Lucas ran for 187 metres and made 19 tackles.
Storm pull off statement win vs. Roosters
The Storm will remain four points clear atop the ladder having secured a statement 24-8 victory over the Roosters in the Victorian capital on Saturday night.
The Storm took a 14-4 lead into the break behind a try to Jack Howarth and a double to Grant Anderson – the second of which coming with Victor Radley binned.
Joe Chan went to the bin for Melbourne in the second forty and Connor Watson for the Chooks however the next try came 66 minutes in through Dom Young.
The Roosters were unable to pull off the comeback with whiz kid Sua Fa’alogo scoring in the final stages to seal a strong win.
Anderson scored two and ran for 152 metres whilst Shawn Blore assisted on a try and ran for 178 metres.
Radley assisted on a try and ran for 133 metres whilst James Tedesco ran for 223 metres with four tackle breaks.
Magician Cleary wills Panthers to golden point win on return
Nathan Cleary’s return came in magical fashion with the No.7 dragging the Panthers to a 28-26 golden point win over the Dolphins at BlueBet Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Both sides traded blows in the opening forty with Sunia Turuva and Paul Alamoti crossing for Penrith and Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow – twice – and Isaiya Katoa for the Phins as they led 18-12 at half-time.
Jack Bostock extended the Dolphins’ lead 51 minutes in before quick tries to Moses Leota and Daine Laurie brought the hosts back within two.
Nathan Cleary nailed a late penalty goal to send things to extra time before slotting a perfect two-point field goal to win it for the defending premiers.
Cleary assisted on a try and ran for 148 metres with five tackle breaks whilst Laurie scored a try, assisted on another, and ran for 260 metres with nine tackle breaks.
Tabuai-Fidow scored two, assisted on another, and ran for 192 metres with nine tackle breaks whilst Bostock scored a try, assisted on another, and ran for 212 metres with seven tackle breaks.
Manly overcome slow start to dominate Titans
A Tom Trbojevic-led masterclass helped power the Sea Eagles to a 38-8 win over the Titans at 4 Pines Park on Sunday afternoon.
Early tries to Alofiana Khan-Pereira and Beau Fermor saw the Titans take an early 8-0 lead which they held onto until the half-hour mark when the tide truly turned.
Luke Brooks and Lehi Hopoate went bang-bang to give the hosts a half-time lead before Jason Saab, Tom Trbojevic, Ben Trbojevic and Tommy Talau all found second-half tries.
Trbojevic scored two, assisted on three, and ran for 206 metres whilst Talau scored a try, assisted on another, and ran for 299 metres.
Fermor scored a try and ran for 109 metres with seven tackle breaks whilst Keano Kini ran for 251 metres with a line break.
Cowboys squeak past Dogs for crucial victory
The Cowboys snagged a key 20-18 victory over the Bulldogs at QCB Stadium on Sunday evening in a big boost for their finals chances.
Tries to Josh Curran and Bronson Xerri saw the Dogs take a four-point lead into the sheds before a Blake Wilson sin bin paved the path for Heilum Luki to answer for the hosts.
A Jacob Kiraz try put the visitors back ahead before teenager Jaxon Purdue snagged a 70th-minute match-winner for the Cows.
Tom Dearden assisted on two tries and ran for 100 metres whilst Heilum Luki scored a try and ran for 117 metres with five tackle breaks.
Curran scored a try and ran for a game-high 205 metres whilst Kiraz scored a try and ran for 155 metres with five tackle breaks.
