Burton boot the difference as Dogs snatch thrilling win
An 83rd-minute, walk-off field goal courtesy of Matt Burton spurred the Bulldogs to a thrilling 15-14 win over the Sharks on Friday night.
The Dogs started fast courtesy of tries to Viliame Kikau and Reed Mahoney before the scoring dried up and the Sharks embarked on a fightback effort.
A Briton Nikora try cut the deficit to six heading into the break before quick four-pointers to Sione Katoa and Braydon Trindall midway through the second half put the visitors ahead by two.
A late Dogs penalty goal forced golden point with Nicho Hynes having a one-point attempt waved away before Burton nailed one the following set to win it for Canterbury.
Max King ran for 151 metres and made 45 tackles whilst Mahoney scored a try and made 54 tackles.
Cameron McInnes assisted on a try, ran for 170 metres, and made 52 tackles whilst Jesse Ramien assisted on a try and ran for 193 metres.
Warriors bounce back as Broncos’ woes continue
The Warriors bounced back from a tough loss a week ago to hand the Broncos their fourth straight loss 36-16 in Auckland on Saturday.
Halves partners Chanel Harris-Tavita and Te Maire Martin grabbed three tries between them in the opening forty to give the hosts a double-digit lead heading into the break.
Deine Mariner grabbed a second 51 minutes in to drag the Broncos back into it before three Warriors tries – to Roger Tuivasa-Sheck, Dallin Watene-Zelezniak, and Freddy Lussick – in a 12-minute period sealed the victory.
Martin scored a try, assisted on three others, and kicked for 220 metres whilst Mitch Barnett assisted on a try, ran for 184 metres with six tackle breaks, and made 32 tackles.
Mariner scored a double and ran for 51 metres whilst Corey Jensen ran for 185 metres and made 50 tackles.
Best stars as Knights outgun Eels in Hunter shootout
A superb Bradman Best effort propelled the Knights to a 34-26 win over Parramatta in Newcastle on Saturday evening.
Blaize Talagi and Mitchell Moses snagged first half tries for the visitors with debutant Will Pryce and Greg Marzhew scoring for Newcastle.
The second forty proved a back-and-forth period with Talagi, Moses, and Marzhew all sealing doubles before a pair of late Best runaways sealed the two points for Newcastle.
Best scored two, assisted on two others, and ran for 357 metres with eight tackle breaks whilst Marzhew scored two and ran for 210 metres with six tackle breaks.
Moses scored a double and ran for 145 metres whilst Gutherson assisted on a try and ran for 147 metres.
Storm down Raiders, go 4 points clear atop ladder
It proved a dire affair, but the Storm finished atop the Raiders 16-6 in Melbourne on Saturday night to push four points clear on the top of the ladder.
The first try came 36 minutes in through Josh King before Kaeo Weekes scored against the run of play in Canberra’s opening set of the second half to drag the Raiders back into it.
Quick tries to Shawn Blore and Jack Howarth gave the hosts a 10-point buffer which proved enough as they held on for their fourth win in a row.
King scored a try, ran for 147 metres, and made 28 tackles whilst Bronson Garlick assisted on two tries and made 41 tackles in place of Harry Grant.
Weekes scored a try and ran for a game-high 207 metres whilst Joseph Tapine ran for 147 metres and made 39 tackles.
Dragons storm home to take down Dolphins at Kogarah
A powerful second stanza saw the Dragons finish atop the Dolphins 26-6 at Kogarah on Sunday afternoon.
It took 34 minutes for the first points of the contest to come via a Kyle Flanagan penalty goal before Tesi Niu crossed on the stroke of the half to give the Dolphins a 6-2 lead.
The second half was all Dragons however with Shane Flanagan’s men scoring 24 unanswered points in the space of 22 minutes to surge to a key win with Raymond Faitala-Mariner, Christian Tuipulotu, Tyrell Sloan, Jack de Belin and Jacob Liddle the try-scorers.
Faitala Mariner scored a try, ran for 129 metres with six tackle breaks, and made 33 tackles whilst Jaydn Su’A assisted on a try and ran for 208 metres with eight tackle breaks.
Trai Fuller ran for 183 metres with six tackle breaks and a line break whilst Tesi Niu scored a try and ran for 146 metres.
Cowboys too strong for Panthers in understrength display
The Cowboys claimed a handy 16-6 victory over the Panthers at the foot of the mountains on Sunday afternoon in a clash sans a slew of Origin stars.
Two first half sin bins were not enough to prevent the Cowboys from taking a 12-6 lead into the sheds with wing duo Kyle Feldt and Braidon Burns the try-scorers.
Rookie centre Jaxon Purdue scored the first try of his NRL career an hour in to put the visitors ahead by double-digits which proved enough.
Feldt scored a try and ran for 190 metres whilst Heilum Luki ran for 106 metres and made 41 tackles.
Daine Laurie ran for 220 metres with nine tackle breaks at fullback whilst James Fisher-Harris ran for 178 metres and made 46 tackles.
Roosters smack Wests Tigers at Allianz
The Roosters snagged their third win on the trot defeating the Wests Tigers 40-6 at Allianz Stadium on Sunday evening.
The points starting flowing early for the hosts thanks to a quick Dom Young double before Terrell May and Luke Keary followed him to put them ahead 20-0 heading into the sheds.
Daniel Tupou crossed first in the second stanza before James Tedesco, Victor Radley, and Daniel Tupou all grabbed tries in the space of four minutes to put the match to bed.
Tedesco scored a try, assisted on another, and ran for 231 metres with 11 tackle breaks whilst Young scored two and ran for 177 metres.
