Titans too strong for Wests Tigers, claim 1st win in over a month
The Titans are back in the winners’ circle after coming away 28-12 winners over the Wests Tigers on Thursday night on the Gold Coast.
The hosts took a 10-point advantage into the sheds thanks to four-pointers to AJ Brimson, Klese Haas, and Jayden Campbell before a pair of tries in the space of three minutes broke the game open on the hour-mark.
Jahream Bula put together a brilliant, individual effort for the Wests Tigers’ second try with 15 to go but it was not enough as the Titans ended their three-game skid.
Phillip Sami scored a try and ran for a game-high 290 metres with eight tackle breaks in his 100th NRL appearance whilst Brimson scored a try, assisted on two others, and ran for 114 metres with six tackle breaks.
Bula scored a try and ran for team-high 226 metres with five tackle breaks whilst David Klemmer scored just the sixth try of his 207-game NRL career to go along with 135 run metres and 19 tackles without a miss.
Clinical Warriors spoil Croker’s 300th in Canberra
Jarrod Croker’s 300th NRL game did not go to plan for the Raiders thanks to a second-half Warriors onslaught resulting in a 36-14 win for Andrew Webster’s men at GIO Stadium on Friday evening.
A Mitchell Barnett sin bin kept the contest tight in the first half with the hosts taking an 8-6 lead into the intermission before the Warriors put together a 30-point second half to sink the Green Machine.
Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad, Tom Ale, Luke Metcalf, Wayde Egan and Shaun Johnson all crossed as the Warriors held on for their third win from their last four.
Johnson scored one and assisted on three others for the Warriors as his vintage season continued whilst Nicoll-Klokstad scored a try and ran for 211 metres with six tackle breaks.
Joseph Tapine ran for 179 metres and made 29 tackles whilst Corey Horsburgh ran for 126 metres and made a game-high 52 tackles.
Sea Eagles hit half-century in Dolphins thumping
Anthony Seibold’s Sea Eagles made a loud statement on Friday night dismantling the Dolphins 58-18 at 4 Pines Park.
It was domination early for the Sea Eagles with Jason Saab, Reuben Garrick, Tom Trbojevic and Lachlan Croker all crossing in the opening quarter.
A Jamayne Isaako try stopped the bleeding temporarily, however, Manly’s outside backs had their way with their opposites all night long.
Trbojevic, Saab, Garrick, and Toluta’u Koula scored nine of the 10 Manly tries and notched four assists between them to go along with a combined 741 run metres and 11 tackle breaks.
Dragons hold off Rabbitohs in Kogarah belter
The Dragons are now 2-2 under interim coach Ryan Carr after coming away with an eventful 36-30 win over the Rabbitohs in front of a sell-out, Kogarah crowd on Saturday afternoon.
A back-and-forth opening stanza saw the Dragons take a 12-8 lead into the sheds before tries to Jacob Liddle, Jaydn Su’A, Michael Molo and Jaiyden Hunt had them up 36-14 with less than four minutes to go.
The Rabbitohs crossed for an absurd trio of tries in less than two minutes to set up an unbelievable, grandstand finish and send the Kogarah faithful into a bewildered daze, however, the hosts held on for their fourth win of the season.
Ben Hunt scored a try, assisted on two others, and kicked for 402 metres whilst Michael Molo scored a try, ran for 166 metres, and made 32 tackles without a miss.
Campbell Graham scored a try, assisted on two others, and ran for 148 metres with eight tackle breaks whilst Keaon Koloamatangi scored a try, assisted on another, and ran for 114 metres.
Broncos break Newcastle hearts in Suncorp thriller
Two tries in the final 12 minutes proved the difference as the Broncos pulled off a come-from-behind win over the Knights at Suncorp on Saturday evening.
Tries to Dom Young and Kalyn Ponga had the Knights up at half-time before another two midway through the second stanza had them leading by eight with under 12 to go.
Brendan Piakura scored the first try of his NRL career to set up a grandstand finish before halves partners Ezra Mam and Adam Reynolds linked beautifully for a 76th-minute match-winner to break the Knights’ hearts.
Payne Haas ran for 222 metres with seven tackle breaks and made 41 tackles without a miss whilst Reece Walsh assisted on two tries and ran for 215 metres with 13 tackle breaks.
Ponga scored a try and ran for 229 metres with 10 tackle breaks whilst Young scored two, assisted on another, and ran for 201 metres with four tackle breaks.
Panthers hand Roosters 4th loss from past 5
The Roosters are now sitting 12th on the ladder with just one win from their past five after falling to the Nathan Cleary-less Panthers 30-6 at Allianz on Saturday night.
Penrith took a 10-0 advantage into the sheds thanks to tries to Stephen Crichton and Dylan Edwards before three tries in six minutes made it 30-0 with almost half an hour remaining.
The Roosters stopped the bleeding and even managed a try of their own but the second-half discourse was dominated by a fiery encounter between future teammates Spencer Leniu and Jared Waerea-Hargreaves that resulted in a double sin bin after the latter tossed a drink bottle at the former.
Scott Sorensen ran for 229 metres and made 21 tackles whilst Crichton scored a try, assisted on another, and ran for 151 metres with four tackle breaks.
Storm tear Sharks to shreds as questions arise for Fitzgibbon’s men
The Storm were back at their dominant best on Sunday afternoon thrashing a hapless Sharks side 54-10 at AAMI Park.
Melbourne took a 34-6 lead into the sheds thanks to Harry Grant and Xavier Coates crossing for doubles.
20 unanswered points in the second half made the scoreboard an ugly sight for the Sharks who dropped their third from their last five and sixth game this season against a top eight opponent.
Munster assisted on three tries and ran for 214 metres with seven tackle breaks, Grant scored two, assisted on another, and ran for 201 metres with seven tackle breaks, and Nelson Asofa-Solomona ran for 170 metres with 12 tackle breaks.
The Sharks missed 57 tackles and made 14 errors in what proved a disastrous afternoon in the Victorian capital.
Moses plays way into NSW jumper in Monday afternoon rout
Newly-named NSW halfback Mitchell Moses enjoyed a day out at Accor Stadium on Monday afternoon leading the Eels to a 34-12 win over the Bulldogs.
Clint Gutherson snagged a hat-trick in just 24 minutes to put the Eels in the drivers’ seat early.
A Hayze Perham try got it back to 28-12 with a quarter of the game remaining but Brad Arthur’s men held on for a third-straight win.
Gutherson scored three, assisted on another, and ran for 190 metres with six tackle breaks whilst Moses assisted on two, ran for 120 metres with five tackle breaks, and kicked for 394 metres.
