Storm outlast sin bin-plagued Broncos in Thursday night showdown

The Storm have now won five of their past seven after finishing atop Brisbane 28-16 at AAMI Park to extend their winning streak over the side to 13 games.

Cameron Munster crossed first to give the hosts an early lead before a pair of Brisbane tries wrestled it off them.

Herbie Farnworth was binned just shy of halftime for a professional foul with Will Warbrick capitalising moments later to tie things up heading into the break.

With Patrick Carrigan in the bin for a hip drop, a Justin Olam try on the hour mark put the Storm ahead by six before Nick Meaney slotted a penalty goal to extend the lead beyond a converted try.

Warbrick grabbed his second to seal it for Craig Bellamy’s men before Cory Paix crossed for a consolation four-pointer late for Brisbane as Thomas Flegler also found himself in the bin late.

Harry Grant assisted on a try, ran for 110 metres, and made a team-high 42 tackles whilst Munster scored a try, made two line breaks, and ran for 104 metres.

For Brisbane, Payne Haas’ absurd run of form continued with the front rower finishing with a game-high 243 metres from 27 carries with eight tackle breaks and 30 tackles without a miss.

Warriors return to winning ways with strong win over Dogs

The Warriors have snapped their three-game skid after coming away with a 24-12 win over the Bulldogs at Accor Stadium on Friday evening.

It was all the visitors early with Josh Curran, Addin Fonua-Blake, and Dallin Watene-Zelezniak all scoring first-half tries to claim an 18-0 lead heading into the sheds.

Harrison Edwards scored for the Dogs on the other side of halftime to breathe some life back into their chances but a 66th-minute Ronald Volkman try – the first of his NRL career – put the cherry on top of a strong Warriors victory.

Panthers thump Roosters as pressure mounts on Tricolours

The Roosters have now won just two of their past six after succumbing to a 48-4 thrashing at the hands of Penrith at BlueBet Stadium on Friday night.

The Penrith avalanche started early with Scott Sorensen crashing over in the opening 10 minutes before the sturdy back-rower grabbed a second – the first double of his NRL career – prior to the half-time siren with Dylan Edwards and Tyrone Peachey also joining him on the try-scorers’ list as the defending premiers took a 24-0 lead into the sheds.

Brian To’o, Sunia Turuva, and Jarome Luai all found four-pointers before Peachey claimed his first double since 2018 to make the scoreboard an ugly sight for Trent Robinson’s men.

Sorensen was unbelievable for Penrith scoring two tries, assisting on another, and running for 194 metres whilst Luai scored a try, assisted on two others, and ran for 135 metres with 11 tackle breaks.

The Roosters have dropped back out of the top eight with the State of Origin period rapidly approaching.

Rabbits hold Wests Tigers scoreless for sixth-straight win

South Sydney have extended their winning streak to six games after defeating the Wests Tigers 20-0 at Accor Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Taane Milne crossed midway through the first half to give Souths a 6-0 lead which they took into the intermission.

Latrell Mitchell piloted through a 51st-minute penalty goal to extend the lead beyond a converted try before Milne and Mitchell each scored in the final 10 minutes to put the icing on the cake for the Rabbitohs.

Milne scored a double and ran for a game-high 273 metres whilst Campbell Graham assisted on a try and ran for 193 metres with six tackle breaks.

Cowboys spoil Hunt’s 300th as Dragons slump to sixth loss on the trot

Ben Hunt’s 300th NRL appearance did not go to plan for the Red V with the Cowboys coming away with a 42-22 win in Townsville on Saturday evening.

Jack de Belin scored just two minutes in to give the Dragons an early lead before Kyle Feldt answered for the Cowboys.

Dragons halfback Jayden Sullivan was binned controversially in the 19th minute which lead to a trio of Cowboys tries in just seven minutes and a 24-6 halftime lead for the hosts.

Heilum Luki grabbed his second on the other side of the break to extend the lead further before tries to Jaydn Su’A and Mikaele Ravalawa brought the Dragons back into it.

The Cowboys scored two late tries off Dragons errors late to seal it and win their second in a row.

Luki was superb for North Queensland scoring the first double of his career to go along with 192 run metres and 21 tackles without a miss whilst Valentine Holmes assisted on a try and ran for 213 metres with four tackle breaks.

For the Dragons, Ravalawa scored a try and ran for 212 metres whilst de Belin also bagged a four-pointer, ran for 140 metres, and made 39 tackles without a miss.

Ricky’s Raiders claim fifth in a row as Young stakes Origin claim

Things are looking peachy in Canberra after the Raiders survived the Eels 26-18 in the nation’s capital on Saturday night for their fifth-consecutive win.

Corey Horsburgh was binned for striking Ryan Matterson just 22 minutes in, however, the Eels were unable to capitalise until he had returned to the field.

The first try of the contest did not come until 32 minutes in with Parramatta lock J’maine Hopgood pouncing on a Matterson grubber to score before Albert Hopoate answered for the Green Machine.

Hudson Young and Sebastian Kris both scored for Canberra in the opening stages of the second stanza to give the Raiders a handy cushion before Bailey Simonsson answered for the Eels.

Maika Sivo crossed for Parramatta in the 67th minute to set up a grandstand finish, however, it was breakout Raiders centre Matthew Timoko who claimed the match-winner with six to play.

Young scored a try, ran for 114 metres, and made 27 tackles whilst Timoko scored a try and ran for a game-high 201 metres with seven tackle breaks.

For Parramatta, Hopgood scored a try, ran for 146 metres, and made 42 tackles.

Knights enjoy highest-scoring outing in nine years to triumph over Titans

The Knights are back in the winners’ circle after an attack-oriented 46-26 beatdown of the Titans in Newcastle on Sunday afternoon.

It was 12-all at halftime thanks to tries to Newcastle’s Dom Young and Tyson Frizell and Gold Coast’s David Fifita and Phillip Sami.

A six-tries-to-three second-half rout, however, powered the Knights to a dominant win in front of their home fans with Young and Bradman Best both claiming doubles.

Kalyn Ponga starred for Newcastle scoring one, assisting on three, and running for 188 metres whilst Greg Marzhew made a line break and ran for a game-high 192 metres with 12 tackle breaks.

For the Titans, Fifita scored twice and ran for 234 metres from 17 carries.

Sharks outlast fast-finishing Eagles in Battle of the Beaches

The Sharks have bounced back from their disappointing Magic Round loss to the Dolphins with a 20-14 win over a fast-finishing Manly outfit at 4 Pines Park.

Cronulla leapt out to a 14-0 lead early after tries to Royce Hunt and Sione Katoa before Jesse Ramie grabbed their third on the other side of the break.

Tries to Reuben Garrick and Lachlan Croker set up a grandstand finish for the hosts, however, Cronulla held on to hand Manly their third-straight loss.

Briton Nikora was strong again for the Sharks assisting on a try, running for 142 metres with three tackle breaks, and making 40 tackles whilst Katoa scored a try, assisted on a line break, and ran for 183 metres with 11 tackle breaks.

For Manly, Garrick scored a try and ran for 154 metres with six tackle breaks whilst Taniela Paseka ran for 171 metres and made 19 tackles.
