NRL Round 9 Preview: Our Selections & Staking Plan

The top 8 is starting to take shape with the Eels and Panthers looking solid at the top but the eighth spot will be up for grabs on Friday night with the Rabbitohs taking on the Tigers.

The Sharks are looking back to the best are looking to make it four in a row on Saturday but they will have to be at their best as they take on second-place Panthers at Jubilee.

The Knights and the Eels kick Sunday off with a mouth-watering clash which is sure to provide fans with plenty of attack and excitement.

Here’s a look at our picks for round 9.

NORTH QUEENSLAND COWBOYS VS SYDNEY ROOSTERS – THURSDAY JULY 9, 7:50PM, QLD COUNTRY BANK STADIUM

The Roosters have slipped down to fifth on the ladder following their golden point loss to the Storm, but they’ve typically been an outstanding betting play on the back of a loss playing to a 3-1 record over the last 12 months.

A string of recent injuries does leave the Roosters looking vulnerable, however, especially with star tryscorer Daniel Tupou joining Victor Radley on the sidelines with an ankle injury.

The Cowboys will be looking to improve their 1-4 record and playing at home is sure to help their case but we’re still backing the Roosters to get the job done.

CRONULLA SHARKS VS PENRITH PANTHERS – SATURDAY JULY 11, 3:00PM, NESTRATA JUBILEE STADIUM

The Sharks seem to have found their best form after stringing three wins together and a dominant performance last week is sure to have Jon Morris’ men full of confidence.

They will have to call on all of that confidence to have a chance against an impressive Panthers outfit who have improved with every game under the guidance of star halfback Nathan Cleary.

BRISBANE BRONCOS VS CANTERBURY BULLDOGS – SATURDAY JULY 11, 5:30PM, SUNCORP STADIUM

Fans are calling for Anthony Seibold to make drastic changes to the lineup, and it appears they might receive their wish with Katoni Staggs set to return from a hamstring injury.

Matt Lodge replacing Corey Oates is also on the cards, while the jury is still out on Darius Boyd, Brodie Croft and Anthony Milford.

Canterbury seemed to play their best footy against the Rabbitohs but lacked the class to secure the two competition points.

NEWCASTLE KNIGHTS VS PARRAMATTA EELS – SUNDAY JULY 12, 4:05PM, MCDONALD JONES STADIUM

The Eels head to Newcastle on Sunday afternoon shooting for three in a row against a wounded Knights outfit.

The Eels were just a class above against the Cowboys last week and could potentially run riot on the Knights here.

The Knights managed to overpower the injury-plagued Sea Eagles last week but look to have a much tougher task here.
