NRL Round 8 Preview: Our Selections & Staking Plan

We’re betting up with some confidence this week with over 19 units in the account after 7 rounds. Round 8 looks to have some great opportunities to make a profit with some lines we want to attack.

2021 Season Tipping Results:

CANBERRA RAIDERS VS SOUTH SYDNEY RABBITOHS – THURSDAY APRIL 29, 7:50PM, GIO STADIUM

The Canberra Raiders will look to break their worrying losing streak when they host the South Sydney Rabbitohs tonight’s Thursday night showdown at GIO Stadium.

Canberra would’ve had fans pulling their hair out after they blew a 24-6 lead in their loss to the Cowboys on Saturday night. It marked a third straight defeat for the Raiders, who after a slow start, climbed a spot into eighth on the ladder.

Meanwhile, the Rabbitohs made it six in a row by defeating the Titans 40-30. They were made to earn the win, using a four-try second half set up by Benji Marshall. The veteran playmaker will start at five-eighth while Cody Walker covers Latrell Mitchell at fullback.

The hosts will be without Jarrod Croker and Josh Papalii with Bailey Simonsson returning to the wing and Sebastian Kris shifting to the centres, while Joseph Tapine gets a recall and will come off the bench.

MELBOURNE STORM VS CRONULLA SHARKS – FRIDAY APRIL 30, 6:00PM, AAMI PARK

Melbourne have really stamped themselves as a title contender with some impressive wins over the past 4 weeks & to win so well without Papenhuyzen last week will have Sharks fans worried.

Last week’s loss to the Bulldogs was a new low point for Cronulla as they embark on a new chapter under Josh Hannay, but it’s fair to say injuries also played a big part in the six-point loss with Matt Moylan, Royce Hunt, Ronaldo Mulitalo and Sione Katoa all on the sidelines.

It’s hard to see the Sharks covering the line here.

BRISBANE BRONCOS VS GOLD COAST TITANS – FRIDAY APRIL 30, 7:55PM, SUNCORP STADIUM

The Brisbane Broncos and Gold Coast Titans head to Suncorp Stadium on Friday night in the second leg of their matchups this season. The Titans won the Round 2 meeting in convincing fashion thanks to a pair of David Fifita tries, making it four from five against their ‘big brother’.

Brisbane’s huge loss to the Eels in Darwin was made worse by skipper Alex Glenn’s injury in the warmup, which will cost him a month on the sidelines. Brodie Croft and Tom Dearden have both been dropped, with Anthony Milford earning a reprieve to form a new halves pairing alongside last week’s unused 18th man, Tyson Gamble.

David Mead has also been dropped with Jesse Arthars his replacement. The Titans have again named Anthony Don on the wing, which shifts Phillip Sami into the centres for the injured Patrick Herbert.

PENRITH PANTHERS VS MANLY SEA EAGLES – SATURDAY MAY 1, 3:00PM, CARRINGTON PARK

The Sea Eagles have turned their season around and taken their rightful place as a top 8 contender having now strung together three wins on the trot with Tom Trbojevic back in the side.

Back to back demolition jobs over the Titans and Tigers has left Manly fans with plenty to celebrate, but of course, this is a different level of opposition going up against the benchmark of the competition.

Still undefeated, the Panthers made it look easy last week in their 24-6 win over the Knights in Penrith, while they also have to feel pretty good about themselves after tearing Manly apart 46-6 just over a month ago.

NEWCASTLE KNIGHTS VS SYDNEY ROOSTERS – SATURDAY MAY 1, 7:35PM, MCDONALD JONES STADIUM

Sitting in 10th place, the Knights find themselves with plenty of work to do on the ladder after suffering a a mighty 24-6 loss at the hands of the Panthers last week.

The Roosters returned to the winner’s circle with a win on ANZAC Day over the Dragons, although this does look to be another tough test with fullback James Tedesco in some doubt after suffering a nasty concussion last week.

Even so, the Roosters hold the wood over the Knights after rattling off back-to-back double-digit victories in their last two meetings.

The tri-colours have scored more than 40 points on both of those occasions, and the scoreboard could be in for another workout with Edrick Lee, Tex Hoy, Hymel Hunt and Mitchell Pearce still on the sidelines for the Knights.

NEW ZEALAND WARRIORS VS NORTH QUEENSLAND COWBOYS – SUNDAY MAY 2, 2:00PM, CENTRAL COAST STADIUM

The impressive NRL debut of Reece Walsh is small comfort for a Warriors side dealing with a mounting injury tally while preparing to face the resurgent Cowboys.

The New Zealand side’s starting line-up in the heavy loss to Melbourne looked an absolute disaster with regular fullback Roger Tuivasa-Sheck on the wing and back-rower Bayley Sironen in the halves.

Walsh was a standout in the 22-point loss, engineering a brace of late tries for winger Ken Maumalo, and this week he’ll be closer to the action at No.6 with RTS reverting to fullback.

Todd Payten’s men have won three on the bounce after a difficult opening month of the season, including a confidence-boosting victory in Canberra over recent grand finalists the Raiders last time out.
