NRL Round 7 Preview: Our Selections & Staking Plan

Round 7 looks an interesting round with several mismatches and we’re confident we’ve found some value and some great plays amongst our 11 selections.

Last week looked a difficult week and that is why we minimised the outlay. The first loss of the season did take 6 rounds but we’re sure we can hit back here with +17 units still in our pockets.

PENRITH PANTHERS VS NEWCASTLE KNIGHTS – THURSDAY APRIL 22, 7:50PM, PENRITH STADIUM

After a tense battle against the Broncos last Thursday night, the Penrith Panthers emerged victorious and showed the competition another way to win.

Meanwhile, it took a superhuman effort from an under-the-weather Kalyn Ponga for the Knights to snap a three-match skid as they overcame the Sharks in an amazing finish.

A fully fit Ponga will lead his side into the toughest test in football with Starford To’a replacing the injured Hymel Hunt in the Knights’ only change. Penrith will be forced to make a change due to Paul Momirovski’s suspension.

GOLD COAST TITANS VS SOUTH SYDNEY RABBITOHS – FRIDAY APRIL 23, 6:00PM, CBUS SUPER STADIUM

After being embarrassed 36-0 by Manly in Mudgee, the Gold Coast Titans will look to bounce back on Friday night against the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

The Bunnies somehow escaped last week’s clash against the Tigers with a golden point win, extending their unbeaten run to five.

However, Latrell Mitchell’s suspension has forced a reshuffle. Alex Johnston will take over at fullback with Dane Gagai moving to the wing while Jaxson Paulo will come onto the other wing to replace the injured Josh Mansour and Steven Marsters slots in at centre.

The Titans have also lost a big name to suspension, with Tino Fa’asuamaleaui’s starting vacancy filled by Moeaki Fotuaika and Sam McIntyre to join the bench. Anthony Don is back from a hip injury with Jonus Pearson the man to miss out. Despite being named last week, Phillip Sami remains on the reserves list due to a concussion sustained in Round 5.

CRONULLA SHARKS VS CANTERBURY BULLDOGS – SATURDAY APRIL 24, 5:30PM, NESTRATA JUBILEE STADIUM

Despite giving up a last-second try to Kalyn Ponga, there was a lot to like about Cronulla’s gutsy performance in the second half after trailing by two tries heading into the sheds.

Canterbury, meanwhile, is still searching for its first win of the season after losing by 12 to the Cowboys last week in Townsville.

On the plus side, the Dogs seem to have figured out their attack after failing to score a single point in three consecutive matches, but this is still a very difficult assignment going up against a Sharks side that has won each of its last three games against Canterbury as the home favourite.

SYDNEY ROOSTERS VS ST GEORGE-ILLAWARRA DRAGONS – SUNDAY APRIL 25, 4:05PM, SCG

Aside from the fact both the Roosters and St George are looking to bounce-back from respective losses, this is also a critical game between fifth and sixth on the ladder.

The Roosters have done well to hang on the fringe of the top four despite a slew of recent injuries, but it was clear last week that the tri-colours were missing their usual knockout punch in the 20-4 loss to the Storm.

The Dragons, meanwhile, received a reality check as their four-game winning streak was snapped at the hands of the Warriors.

MELBOURNE STORM VS NEW ZEALAND WARRIORS – SUNDAY APRIL 25, 6:15PM, AAMI PARK

It was a vintage Storm performance in last weekend’s win over the Roosters, with their relentless style of play eventually wearing down the Tricolours.
