NRL Round 17 Preview: Our Selections & Staking Plan

We were able to add another +4 units of profit to the pockets in round 16 which makes it 30.18 since we started in round 8 but we’re looking for more in round 17.

Tipping Results (Started In Round 8) :

Round 16 was another positive result but we have another opportunity to build here with some decent bets in round 17.

Let’s take a look at round 17 below.

BRISBANE BRONCOS VS PENRITH PANTHERS – THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 3, 7:50PM, SUNCORP STADIUM

The Panthers have a great chance to set yet another club record by making it 12 consecutive wins when they take on a struggling Broncos lineup here.

Penrith were dominant against the Tigers last week but looked a little below their best which should scare the Broncos who were on the receiving end of a 58-12 beatdown against the Roosters at Suncorp last week.

Ivan Cleary’s men don’t typically put two below-par performances together so we’re happy to back them to cover the big line.

SOUTH SYDNEY RABBITOHS VS MELBOURNE STORM – FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 4, 7:55PM, ANZ STADIUM

Souths have caught fire over the past month, piling on 94 points in their previous two matches and averaging 37 over their past five games.

They will have to call on their halves to create some scoring chances as they will be without their star fullback Latrell Mitchell for the remainder of the season.

The Storm won comfortably over Souths back in Round 4 as Ryan Papenhuyzen and Josh Addo-Carr wreaked havoc, a performance Craig Bellamy will be hoping his side can replicate with a handful of his stars still on the sideline.

CANBERRA RAIDERS VS SYDNEY ROOSTERS – SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 5, 7:35PM, GIO STADIUM

This is clearly the match of the round with a Grand Final rematch to be made more exciting by the inclusion of the one and only Sonny Bill Williams.

The Roosters are still missing some key players in the form of Luke Keary, Jake Friend, Matt Ikuvalu and Angus Crichton which is sure to have them below their best.

The Raiders famously won 24-20 over the Roosters at the SCG earlier in the year and have gone on to lose only one game since.

Canberra had their hands full against the Bulldogs in the first half last week, but the Green Machine showed tremendous fight to turn things around with four unanswered tries.

That being said, we’re happy to stick with the Roosters here.

NEW ZEALAND WARRIORS VS PARRAMATTA EELS – SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 6, 4:05PM, CENTRAL COAST STADIUM

After proving too good for the Knights last weekend, the Warriors face a Parramatta side needing to re-establish their premiership credentials.

The Warriors may have been away from home for over 5 months now but their win over the Knights last week will have them full of confidence heading into this matchup.

After copping a 38-0 hiding from South Sydney in their last start, the Eels need to start winning again to assure themselves of a spot in the top four.

Parramatta’s woes of late also make this a very interesting betting matchup, even more so with Dylan Brown set to miss an indefinite amount of time with an ankle injury.

NORTH QUEENSLAND COWBOYS VS ST GEORGE ILLAWARRA DRAGONSSUNDAY SEPTEMBER 6, 6:35PM, QUEENSLAND COUNTRY BANK STADIUM

The Dragons all but threw away their season last week in their loss to the Titans, but they do have a chance to make up for lost time against another of the league’s bottom feeders on Sunday.

North Queensland are on the verge of a 10th straight loss after coming up 16 points short of the Sharks last week at Jubilee.

The Cowboys’ injury list claimed another victim with Michael Morgan suffering a calf injury and it is very difficult to see them overcoming his absence based on the way they performed without their captain in the lineup earlier in the year.

St George has been nearly impossible to get a read on this year, but they have been a fairly consistent customer against the Cowboys recently.

The Saints have won four of their last five over North Queensland, three of which have come by a margin of 1-12.
