Novak Djokovic is continuing his domination over Taylor Fritz. On Tuesday night at Arthur Ashe Stadium in Flushing Meadows, New York, Djokovic advanced to the semifinals of the 2025 United States Open with a 6-3, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 win. Djokovic, the 24-time grand slam champion, and the tournament’s seventh seed, broke Fritz four times in nine opportunities in the men’s quarterfinal victory.
All-time Djokovic is 11-0 against Fritz. This was Djokovic’s fourth win over Fritz at a major. Djokovic’s other three grand slam wins came in the third round of the 2021 Australian Open (7-6, 6-4, 3-6, 4-6, 6-2), the quarterfinals of the 2023 United States Open (6-1, 6-4, 6-4), and the quarterfinals of the 2024 Australian Open (7-6, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3). Djokovic’s other wins over Fritz came in the third round of Monte Carlo in 2019 (6-3, 6-0), second round of Madrid in 2019 (6-4, 6-2), second round of Rome in 2021 (6-3, 7-6), quarterfinals of Paris in 2021 (6-4, 6-3), semifinals of the 2022 ATP Finals (7-6, 7-6), quarterfinals of Cincinnati in 2023 (6-0, 6-4), and semifinals of Shanghai in 2024 (6-4, 7-6).
Seeded seventh, Djokovic of Belgrade, Serbia has now reached a record 53 grand slam singles semifinals. That is the most ever for a man or woman. Chris Evert of the United States has the most grand slam semifinals on the women’s side with 52. Roger Federer of Switzerland has the second most grand slam semifinals on the men’s side with 46. Of the 53 grand slam appearances, 12 have come at the Australian Open, 13 have come at the French Open, 14 have come at Wimbledon, and 14 have come at the United States Open.
Next up for Djokovic on Friday in the semifinals will be world number two Carlos Alcaraz of Spain. Djokovic is 5-3 all-time against the 2025 French Open champion.Â
