Northam Selections & Staking Plan: Wednesday 20th October

With question marks over the Ascot surface with the weather in Perth, this week’s Wednesday meeting has been moved to Northam. Soft 6 track meets us on a card I’m actually keen to get involved in, particularly early.

Race 1 – 12:54PM TABTOUCH BETTER YOUR BET MAIDEN (1100 METRES)

5. Ciscojoe – 7. Cobbanco – 9. Flower In The Wind – 4. Advanced

Ciscojoe

Thought once Ciscojoe got out off heels on debut he absolutely savaged the line in a very promising debut performance. That form has since held up and prior to that effort looked to be a smart horse at the trials. Maps to land with a beautiful smother midfield for Carbery here and with any luck he has to be going close. Best trial was on soft so the wet track should be no issue.

2.5 Units WIN

Cobbanco

Simply have to have something on this trial blackbooker on debut at the current odds of $20. The barrier nor the jock fill me with confidence but the trials have been nothing short of super. Just looks a real line chaser with a lovely, flowing action for a relatively unknown yard. Think he has potential to turn into a nice horse and am very confident despite drawing the extreme outside he will be cutting them down late.

Race 2 – 1:34PM AMELIA PARK LODGE MAIDEN (1100 METRES)

5. Magnificent Andy – 8. Hart Trader – 6. Glacier Miss – 2. Demerits Pride

Magnificent Andy

Have loved the trials of this guy in the lead up to his debut here. The latest he sat just off them, was clicked up at the top of the straight and motored past some handy ones under a stranglehold late. I don’t think there are any stars here and this looks a great kick-off point for him in his career. Can lob just in behind the speed for Brad Parnham and prove too strong late if he runs up to his trials.

3 Units WIN

Hart Trader

Want to have a small save on Hart Trader for the in-form Kersley yard. Has a really nice figure at her last start as a 2YO when 3L adrift of Buzzoom who has since gone from strength to strength. The most recent trial really hit the line super I thought under a very sneaky tight hold from Beaux. With just the 52kgs on her back after the claim I think she certainly has claims here if the favourite doesn’t get through the ground.

0.5 Units WIN

Race 3 – 2:14PM MRS MAC’S MAIDEN (1100 METRES)

5. Dais – 6. Catalpa – 7. He’sgotwings – 3. Talkallyouwant

Dais

Horrid, horrid watch if you were on on debut. Held up behind runners when absolutely bolting until there was 100m to go, before savaging the line late and missing in a bob. Looks to have plenty of ability and this looks a really weak maiden. Smokin Joe is in red hot form and doubt he is going to make the same mistake again and run her into trouble. $1.95 in the red is not me, betting up at anything $2.20+ late.

4 Units WIN @$2.20+ SP

Race 4 – 2:54PM CROWN PERTH HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

6. Real Danger – 3. Powerful – 1. Strike – 2. Red Inferno

Race 5 – 3:30PM QUAYCLEAN HANDICAP7 (1600 METRES)

7. Lady Of Babylon – 5. Rogues Point – 1. Sunday Gin – 10. Bring Euro

Race 6 – 4:05PM AIRAH WA HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

7. Rock’n’ruler – 6. Beanie – 4. Alimentaria – 5. He’s All Mighty

Rock’n’ruler

Rock’n’ruler is a deadset wet-tracker. Swimmer that doesn’t go on dry tracks and has for the first time in a long time been running well on dry tracks so far this prep. Finally gets to a genuinely wet track here for the first time this prep, I think he’s flying and he maps to find the top in a race that lacks genuine early speed. That Ginger Flyer form looks super for this and really confident he can run in the money.

0.5 Units EACH WAY

Race 7 – 4:40PM BYRON BAY PREMIUM LAGER HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

8. Main Engine – 3. Worth A Risk – 4. Expressionist – 6. Wakan Tanka
