Week 11 NFL Preview & Analysis

The 11th week of the National Football League will be highlighted by a very appealing AFC matchup between two of the league’s most dynamic and mobile quarterbacks. The 7-2 Baltimore Ravens led by Lamar Jackson, is set to host the 6-3 Houston Texans, led by Deshaun Watson.

Why the Texans win:

DeShaun Watson is currently tied with Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs for the most touchdown passes in the AFC with 18. The Texans were expected by some to struggle defensively with the loss of J.J. Watt, but the Texans still have two exceptional linebackers in Zach Cunningham and Benardrick McKinney, who have combined for 125 tackles.

Why the Ravens win:

Lamar Jackson just does not beat you with his arm, but his legs as well. His 702 rushing yards leads all NFL quarterbacks, and is the 11th most in the NFL.

My take:

The Ravens lead the AFC North while the Texans lead the AFC South. In a game that is surprisingly not in prime time, the Ravens are my pick as they have scored 62 more points this season than the Texans.

Jacksonville Jaguars @ Indianapolis Colts

In this AFC South Division matchup, the Colts will look to rebound after an embarrassing 16-12 loss to the Miami Dolphins last week. Jacoby Brissett is back in the Colts lineup after missing last week with a sprained medial collateral ligament. The Jaguars will also have quarterback Nick Foles back after breaking his collarbone in week one.

Why the Jaguars win:

The Jaguars will be well-rested after coming off a week 10 bye. At 4-5, the Jaguars have given up the fewest points in the AFC South (189).

Why the Colts win:

The Colts offense is significantly better with Brissett in charge instead of Brian Hoyer. This season Brissett is putting the talk of just being Andrew Luck’s replacement behind him and is proving to be a solid no.1 quarterback. He has 1649 passing yards with 14 touchdowns compared to three interceptions.

My take:

The Jaguars have won two of their last three games. Even though two of the wins came against two weak NFL opponents in the Cincinnati Bengals and New York Jets, the Jaguars have won five of the last seven meetings against Indianapolis (5-4), with two of those Jaguars wins being a shutout. The Jaguars have a good chance of pulling off the upset and are my pick here.

New England Patriots @ Philadelphia Eagles

The Patriots currently lead the AFC East right now at 8-1, while the Eagles are tied for the lead with the Dallas Cowboys in the NFC East at 5-4. The Patriots are in the tough stretch of their schedule, as following Philadelphia, they have Dallas, Houston and Kansas City.

Why the Patriots win:

New England has now had two full weeks to prepare for Philadelphia. The Patriots defense will contain a struggling Carson Wentz, who has only had three touchdown passes in the last three weeks for the Eagles.

Why the Eagles win:

Philadelphia is starting to generate confidence as they have won two straight games against the Buffalo Bills and Chicago Bears. The Eagles have beaten the Patriots in their last two meetings including Super Bowl LII by a score of 41-33.

My take:

Twice last season the Patriots lost back-to-back games, but the fact that the Patriots have given up 115 fewer points in 2019 than the Eagles cannot be ignored. New England’s defense has a bounce-back game after losing 37-20 to the Baltimore Ravens and pick up the road win.

Chicago Bears @ Los Angeles Rams

Two teams that are staggering and underperforming around the .500 mark get the questionable luxury of playing in primetime on Sunday night. The Chicago Bears are 4-5 and the Rams are 5-4.

Why the Bears win:

The improved play of quarterback Mitch Trubisky. After struggling for most of 2019, Trubisky was great last week in throwing for three touchdown passes in a 20-13 win over the Detroit Lions.

Why the Rams win:

The Rams offense is significantly more prolific than the Bears. They have scored 64 more points this season than Chicago.

My take:

Defense. The Bears defense is better. They have given up 34 fewer points than the Rams this season. Last year when the Rams and Bears met, the Bears picked off Jared Goff four times in a 15-6 Chicago win. Take Chicago.
