The National Football League playoffs are only three days away with six wildcard games on the slate for the first time. That is what happens when you add two teams to the postseason. As we enter the playoffs, teams will have to keep an eye on two wide receivers who had franchise record-breaking seasons for their respective clubs– Stefon Diggs of the Buffalo Bills and DK Metcalf of the Seattle Seahawks.

Diggs, a native of Gaithersburg, Maryland, had quite the season for the AFC East champion Bills. He led the NFL with 127 receptions, and 1535 receiving yards–both Bills franchise records. Eric Moulds held the previous Bills records of most receptions in a season (100 in 2002) and receiving yards in a season (1368 in 1998).

Metcalf, a native of Oxford, Mississippi, set the Seahawks single-season record of receiving yards with 1303 in the Seahawks’ final game of the season, a 26-23 Seattle win over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. According to Ben Arthur of Seattle P-I, Metcalf broke the record previously set by former Seahawks Hall of Fame wide receiver Steve Largent, who had 1287 receiving yards in 1985.

The Seahawks have another formidable receiver in Tyler Lockett. Also in the Seahawks win over the 49ers, Lockett broke the Seattle record for catches in a season. He finished the year with 100, six more than the record of 94 catches previously held by Bobby Engram in 2007 and Doug Baldwin in 2016.

Even though Lockett was found frequently by Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, it appears Metcalf is more of a threat than Lockett. That is because Metcalf had 249 more receiving yards.

This weekend, the Seahawks play the Los Angeles Rams, and the Bills play the Indianapolis Colts. Both the Rams and Colts have excellent defenses, and it will be interesting to see how Diggs matches up against the Colts secondary, and likewise for Metcalf against the Rams cornerbacks.
